If Britain is just a shit oligarchy of hateful swine, fine. I will get on with my life and try to not think about it. But don’t keep giving me this chat about democracy through debate and deliberation, when it’s obviously not true.

Difficult to explain how utterly disgusting it is that a bunch of nice social workers, teachers and nurses used the democratic system to promote their opposition to extremely racist violence, and they were crushed for it by people who threw Britain’s support behind this, to curry favour with America

Do you see this? This is lots of people who saw clearly that The Day Of Reckoning was coming, and wanted to do something to prevent it. And the world’s most poisonous, ugliest, most horrifying media class told the public it was a “carnival of hate”, and similar things www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-poli...

Labour conference: Members fill hall with Palestinian flags

Delegates unfurl Palestinian flags at their conference hall - and Emily Thornberry delivers a fiery speech.

You might expect that on such a serious issue, people who got it badly wrong all along would now be apologetic. But no, they are not: they are angrier than ever and more determined to stomp upon everyone who told them something like this would happen sooner or later.

I mean, it was very clear that successive Israeli governments had radicalised the populace to a position of Exterminate All The Brutes ten years ago. That’s why so many people were campaigning about it, it was very obvious what the outcome of this would be.

I don’t think it’s better if it’s socialists actively trying to destroy the Palestinians as a population but yes, this is a straight left/right issue: do you support this expansionist fascist state committing genocide and ethnic cleansing, with roaring public approval?

Would be pretty depressing to see this poll spread over time. The era of Labor Zionism and Kibbutzes is long gone.

This is the thing that really galls me. The left did everything by the rules: won people over with argument, earned their positions through reasoned debate. And then they hit the brick wall veto that was Peter Mandelson’s friends and his media allies saying: absolutely not, we will not allow it.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social · 20h ago

Literally did what people are supposed to do: organise, debate, make arguments and win people over to supporting you, then make your case through the democratic process. Look at what they got, for playing by the rules.

As predicted: “Oracle [founded by Trump ally Larry Ellison], Andreessen Horowitz [founded by Trump/Thiel ally Marc Andreessen] consortium will control 80% of TikTok…” 9/16/25 Ellison & Andreessen also funded Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover, so this is kind of like capturing Boardwalk & Park Place. 1/

Oracle, Andreessen Horowitz consortium will control 80% of TikTok in U.S.: Report

Current users of the app will be asked to shift to a new app, which TikTok has built and is testing.

Given the news that Meta throttled Lula in Brazil and stories like this one below every Dem state legislature should open an investigation into whether the platforms have attempted to influence elections in their states.

My grandpa died at 93. He had to pause his medical degree because of WWII and was put in charge of medical care on a ship in Palestine at 22 (!). He didn't have a shred of racism in him. Or, notably, homophobia, having proudly generated a fabulous brace of bi and gay grandchildren.

My grandmother is 94. She’s not a racist. My grandfather was 94, nearly 95 when he died. And, in the home where he lived for the last three years of his life, he was cared for by people from all over the world. In his dying hours, the presence of a nurse from Jamaica who he liked a lot soothed him.

Perhaps the head of the British Army should not be doing media appearances instructing the public to accept massive benefit cuts? Perhaps he should be fired for doing that, and replaced by a different Rupert who will keep his nose out of politics.

A powerful intervention from the head of the Army. Something is coming, and government needs to wake up.
He says the public will have to make sacrifices so we can prioritise defence and security.
This is no time for "national security can't come at the expense of social security". Hard choices are coming whether ministers like it or not.
I have been clear where I would start: cut welfare spending and put the money into defence.

When a Social Media Mob Came for Cornell’s Jane Doe

After a former student named seven men in a lawsuit saying they had sexually assaulted her, a movement gained steam online to reveal her identity.

Seems relevant to that flood of journalists who in the last few weeks announced publicly that it was okay to return to X, that the platform had gotten better, and the worst aspects of it had been minimized. This is what you have endorsed.

Update: without explanation, and after being suspended for more than an hour during peak mobilization time, Zuckerberg's Instagram restored the No Kings account but we still lack admin access. More to come. Rest assured we will not stop organizing against this regime and its collaborators.

❗❗❗Mark Zuckerberg's meta just suspended the No Kings Instagram account. I just rushed back from my local No Kings to jump on this. Bottom line, would be helpful for all pro-No Kings folks to elevate the issue and help us get the word out about No Kings today. The Nerd Reich strikes again.

It’s because it’s so vicious, idiotic and illogical that we’ve wound up with e.g. the spouse of a national security advisor being investigated for a potential terrorism offence, in a tweet. Because the entire point of the exercise is: fuck you, we’re in charge, we decide.

It is IMO under the umbrella of the general crackdown on the left and anything coded as left wing. A roaring wave of repression that has barely any public buy-in, it’s just our repellent political/media class enforcing its will year on year, shouting down any objections.

It’s just a display of force. Fuck you: we are in charge and we decide. Don’t like it? Fuck you again. And there’s no major dissent about it because the whole project sprang from the press themselves. This is their riot, so of course they approve and want more. Much more, in fact.
