so the race KC DSA was working on actually turned out better, a very close second place for Hartzell Gray

This is pretty much exactly what happened. The polls dramatically overestimated how he’d do with whites and underestimated how well he’d do with Black voters.

I do think that some of those voters were Republicans voting for Democrats, and Abdul also kept it close in a lot of those areas. He also cleaned up across the UP including rural areas.
