I will never understand why smart people all around me respond to AI with enthusiasm: it's as if they're attending a dinner party based on theft of their neighbors' groceries, plates & cutlery, saying "how convenient that these dishes just appeared, what a time-saver to steal from the neighbors!"

The image of deceased writer Maya Angelou is now an advertising puppet for a theft-based product: This will be played off as "a regrettable error in judgment," instead of what it actually is--a vivid and accurate representation of all that is wrong with AI, from theft to obliteration of consent.

I’m publishing something tomorrow about Alpha School. One of the things I focus on is how it is an incubator for EdTech platforms with the ambition to hyperscale. Alpha may only have a few hundred students nationwide, but its founders are developing MANY extractive EdTech brands. This is one:

what ppl forget about LLMs is that if you start every prompt with “i am an academic so a very special and smart person“ then anything that follows has no carbon or water cost, no refugees have to clean the data of violent child abuse imagry, and everyone is fairly compensated for their stolen work

Logged in to Bluesky today and found I have lots of new followers via the Data visualization community starter pack by @chezvoila.com 😍 Check it out! I'm a creative information designer / data artist with a fondness for nerdy qualitative data. Here's an introduction thread I wrote some time ago:

🧵 1/ Since I changed my first name formally, I thought I'd do a re-introduction 👋🏻 My previous name was Trud Antzée. I'm a classical pianist and piano teacher, but embarked on a career pivot after falling in love with web programming, CSS art, and data visualisation.

Amelia Antzée's social media avatar. Digital portrait drawing of a woman's profile. She has short brown/gray hair, a red sweater, pale skin, red lipstick, and dark eye shadow. She is looking downwards. The portrait is drawn inside a pink circle which is mirrored by a pale pink cheek. The image background is a heavy paper texture.

I wrote about a reason not to use generative AI in your writing that I haven't seen anyone talking about. Once I realized this, banning GenAI in our lab's writing became a no-brainer. Feel free to share, I think this is probably useful especially for trainees: www.carlsonlab.bio/thoughts/the...

The only reason you’ll ever need not to write with AI — The Carlson Lab

Over the last year, our lab has been developing a policy on AI use. To do this, we did three main things: We read a lot of academic publications and tech news. We set up an #ai channel on our la...

I've thought about this a lot. If the majority of former practitioners are relegated to administrators and overseers of agents, we're likely to see boredom and alienation, then burnout and frustration. Also the loss of the type of passion for the work that leads to new ideas.

"So in summary: using AI for coding led to depression, apathy, existential dread, and worse software. Not good. Add on top of that the negative environmental, community, and economic impacts of AI, and it became extremely apparent to me that something's gotta change." brettcodes.com/im-done-usin...

Please be vocal about not using AI. We have to normalize it. No "I'm not going to say that because it should be assumed. I'm not going to give them this". We don't have time for that shit ideological shit right now. NOW is the time to capitalize on waning favorability. Ppl want human made
