Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up

The Verge@theverge.com · 2d ago

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead

This really is the question. And the answer is damning to all the people who support his businesses, serve on his boards, buy his stocks, invite him to conferences & social events, treat him as a legitimate civic voice, and yes, post on the right-wing brain-cooking social media site he owns.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social · 6d ago

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

I'm interested in finding and potentially supporting people who are interested in doing long-form writing on the big efforts in global health: Gavi, Global Fund, PEPFAR, etc. If this is you or someone you know, please make yourself known!

🤯 “Rosenbaum had been clear about the use of AI tools in his nonfiction book — ironically, a study of the future of truth and technology - but had used them only to research and organise material, including summarising source documents and interviews.”

Brendan Keogh@brkeogh.bsky.social · last wk.

Surely the solution here is just *don't use AI tools* for your writing and research and continue to do your writing and research in ALL the ways you were doing it before you started using AI instead of doing the work??

Relevant discussion for the dataviz crowd. 📊 - Data is not anecdote - let's not pretend otherwise - Averages can hide major differences - show them

At first I thought responses to @whstancil.bsky.social sharing mainstream economic data were a kind of schtick, or performance. But the more I follow the deranged reactions he gets on here the more I'm coming to suspect that people genuinely do not understand the difference between data & anecdote.

“I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.” ― Stephen Jay Gould, The Panda's Thumb: More Reflections in Natural History

Maybe it’s not good for global geopolitical stability that so much rides on inverted incentives to do the right thing (decrease gas consumption).

First article about our monthly Strength In Numbers/ @verasight.io poll is up today - 59% say gas price hikes have forced them to cut back spending - 51% blame Trump - 68% say prices will influence their vote in Nov. Cake may already be baked on Iran fallout open.substack.com/pub/gelliott...
