"If there is a question to ask, then, it is this: Why does Musk get a pass? Why do politicians, journalists and commentators treat his far-right racist radicalism as a sideshow rather than the core of his political, ideological and industrial project..." www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/o...

Why does the owner of X get a pass for what he says and does there?

For those of you who are still over there because of "the reach" or "the discourse" or whatever.
Musk calls for the assassination of a reporter who embarrassed him with basic questions
The decision of so many people to keep using X in its race-war phase has made me a bit more cynical overall about the ability to draw moral red lines. It’s beyond disappointing.
Every single fucking time the question “how did this get worse,” the answer is motherfucking private equity.”
Well, this article is incredibly depressing for cooking enthusiasts. The short version: private equity has, over the last couple of decades, quietly bought up most of the classic brands you’ve heard of and then traded on their names while drastically cutting quality and closing American factories

The Marriott hotel room designers & all who signed off on an opaque glass door with a gap for the bathroom next to the bed should be fired & never allowed to design hospitality services ever again. This is the Courtyard Marriott at CDG Paris.
Amazing thread, worth reading through to the end. Some chuckles and some outright guffaws to be had.
I try not to overdo this bit but ... my man is begging for it. Let's go.
Mamdani & his team are so good at political & civic communication & telling stories that connect the threads of what it means to live in a diverse society & aspire to being better than the reality. Worth a listen & to think about how it might be told in the context of where you live
It’s worth watching Mamdani’s full 13-minute address. THIS is the 4 of July speech the country deserves. If you teach, consider adding it to your curriculum. If you’re a parent, watch it with your kids. This is a weekend to reflect. This speech was pitch-perfect. This speech should be remembered.
Both totally unnecessary and extremely funny that the Guardian has an interactive graphic for you to change the color of the US flag's blue to the color of the Reflecting Pool from 8 to 19 June and counting

I did a music thing! For the first time in ages & it was such a joy. I played in the Rough Music ensemble for a joint show w/ The Population Choir. A joyful night of songs, played to a full house at Union in Copenhagen.

there were already many reasons to do this but Elon Musk actively encouraging racist violence in Belfast should be the final straw for every UK government institution to stop doing business - including being on X - with him in any way, and for him to be barred from entry to the country.
Former Ohio Congressional candidate Carl Setzer delivered a masterclass testimony against data centers on June 1. A clip:
I am begging you for the millionth time to understand, no one is pretending to like a band you don't like.
Our entire economy is being artificially propped up by astrology for men: AI, crypto, sports betting, and prediction markets. It's an economy shaped entirely by male insecurity and lack of impulse control, and we'll all pay the price.
Tinariwen were magical. The vibe built & built & by the end of the gigt a concert hall full of Danes (+ more than a few Middle Eastern & North African compatriots) were dancing in the aisles. One of the better shows I’ve been to in a while, full of a genuine joy that was created by band & audience.
Spent a bit more than I'd normally want to but it was an RSD release actually worth getting. Geffen wouldn't let him release this version & instead made him work with Geoff Emerick on the overproduced but still ok Songs From the Film. This "lost" version was worth the wait and the money.
