Do try to remember that the EHRC guidance only affects service providers and not employment, so if you work somewhere where there are toilets or changing rooms for employees that aren’t open to the public then your employers are wrong if they try to stop you from using facilities for your gender

Very short notice (deadline 18 August) but we're advertising a 0.5fte lectureship in public history for next year. Covers my 3rd year undergraduate course on public history of Rome (ancient to modern) plus some MA public history teaching.

Plastic ‘recycling‘ does not mitigate its use. The UK should recycle here or not at all. Making it another country’s problem is not good enough and gives people and businesses an excuse to continue plastic use rather than cut it down (or get rid of completely.) Rubbish (quite literally).

UK is probably second only to the US in terms of needless plastic in everyday consumption - from wrapping absolutely everything in supermarkets (cut up apple in a plastic box, why?) to oceans (and literally) of plastic 'gadgets'. This is where it ends up www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Touch typing was hands down the most useful practical skill I learnt at school. We had to take a class in addition to A-levels and in a rare good decision made by teenaged me, I chose typing. We learnt on huge clunky typewriters and did RSA exams. I have never regretted it.

I wonder if students today would be less likely to lean on AI for writing assignments if schools had made sure they could touch-type (at least 60wpm) before having them submit all their assignments online. 1/🧵

In late 2023, the Society spent a day with Hertfordshire’s historians. We saw the quality, creativity and distinctiveness of teaching, research and engagement. We were told by a (now departed) senior manager that History was ‘a portfolio the university will guard very carefully’. bit.ly/4hLediN

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

Still find it fascinating the complete mess of the city she represents isn't seen as a negative thing. It's almost as if the ongoing bin strike (and lack of household recycling for over a year) doesn't get any attention. Just imagine if what is happening in Birmingham was in London.

Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.
