Just Transition/Climate Justice + football + Argentinean and French politics

The Pope has thrown his weight behind a just transition, Speaking at Austrian World Summit, Pope Leo said: “It is not merely desirable but also genuinely possible that the progress at COP30 can be followed up with a just transition...” His comments come as discussion on the JTWP continues at Bonn

At a Historic Conference, Frontline Groups Push for a Just Transition

Though the First Conference on Transitioning away from Fossil Fuels is a historic achievement, movement organizers question if it will create needed pathways toward a just transition.

As usual, a good source for challenging our work as climate justice nerds. And yes, we must believe in the ability of humanity to organise capital and innovation in a way that makes everyone’s lives enjoyable and dignified - which requires to transition away from fossil in a just way.

My favorite thing I've written in a while. At my core, I'm an energy history nerd (a disciple of Vaclav Smil's hardcore energy materialism). So Fressoz's book More & More & More gave me much to think about and criticize. jacobin.com/2026/01/fres...

Do you know about the Pal Action hunger strikers? It’s one of the most important stories developing right now - and it’s been buried.

Here’s what you need to know.

7/ A growing coalition is demanding clarity on phasing out fossil fuels and a just transition mechanism. But rich countries are still blocking progress. We need results here in Belém. ✅Just transition ✅Public finance ✅Adaptation ✅Fossil fuel phase-out

2/ This weak text fails on all counts: ❌ No fossil fuel phase-out ❌ No real finance from rich countries ❌ No justice for impacted communities We need a full package: public finance, just transition, adaptation, and fossil fuel phase-out. #COP30

11/ We need a just transition driven by governments & frontline communities, not corporations. ➡️This is the moment. ➡️Plan the phaseout. ➡️Pay your fair share. ➡️Deliver justice. Or fuel the fire while the planet burns. #COP30

It will not surprise you to learn that many of these same countries are the ones moving to block the just transition mechanism--the thing that would actually help the world move away from fossil fuels--at #COP30

As #COP30 gets underway in Belem, a new report shows that four countries—Australia, Canada, Norway and the U.S.—have collectively *increased* oil and gas production 40% since the Paris Agreement was signed 10 years ago @rishpardikar.bsky.social writes: drilled.media/news/COP30-OCI
