Hard to overstate the excellence of this long-read from @shaunwalker7.bsky.social on the Western and Ukrainian intelligence run-up to Russia's full-scale invasion: the Iraq War's legacy, Zelensky v Zaluzhny, the geopolitical forces that shaped what followed. Awesome work, wonderful writing.

A war foretold: how the CIA and MI6 got hold of Putin’s Ukraine plans and why nobody believed them

Drawing on more than 100 interviews with senior intelligence officials and other insiders in multiple countries, this exclusive account details how the US and Britain uncovered Vladimir Putin’s plans ...

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say. This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand. All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

It's just enormously important to understand that the goal of this tariff policy isn't to raise money or to increase manufacturing in the United States. The goal is to make some of the nation's largest companies subject to Trump's personal discretion and dependent on his favor.

Over the last few weeks I've been incrementally merging infrastructure for AIO into postgres. Just now I finally merged the first actual user of AIO ("streaming reads" now can use AIO). It's been a long long road. I've been, with a lot of help along the way, working on this since some time in 2019.

The Atlantic article doesn't quite say what form Hegseth's “TEAM UPDATE.” had, but it sure sounds like it was a document, not just a chat message typed on the phone. Which begs the question of how he even got that information onto the private phone?

THREAD: There’s a dire situation in Vietnam, at the largest Agent Orange spill in the country. When Trump and Marco Rubio cancelled foreign aid, froze funding and began dismantling USAID, those who were cleaning up the Bien Hoa air base had to halt work. 1/

Indeed. As a GC holder with a pending n400 I have the urge to self censor every time I write something public. Much more so than during Trump I. I try to suppress that urge, but I'm sure that a lot gets filtered subconsciously.

Spare a thought for your green-card holding and naturalized colleagues, many of whom are now doing risk-benefit calculations before speaking on anything that could be considered remotely political

How did our country (the U.S.) create and elevate such a group of cowardly, greedy, vain, arrogant, and profoundly insecure men to the highest rungs of power? They bring Zelensky to the Oval Office for what? To mock and denigrate a truly courageous leader & try to bring him down to their base level?

Judge Kollar-Kotelly grilled counsel for the government on DOGE's command structure. Counsel repeatedly said he didn't know the answer to her questions. The judge said the questions are relevant bc she has concerns about whether DOGE is operating constitutionally under the Appointments Clause.

I occasionally wonder how much of the polled network/storage performance gains being talked about are in reality mainly about the effect of CPU idling.

Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...

Musk's Junta Establishes Him as Head of Government

Imagining how we'd cover overseas what's happening to the U.S. right now

Sometimes I hate performance stuff. How to quickly zero large amounts of memory differs rather vastly between cpu generations. On both systems core and memory are bound to node 0 and the same mmap flags are used (MAP_SHARED | MAP_ANONYMOUS | MAP_HUGETLB | MAP_POPULATE)
