BJJ dad, armchair anarchist. I'm a white belt, so please don't take any of this too seriously.

Yesterday a guy at the gym asked me if I had any good tips for escaping side control. Told him sorry bud, I suck at that too. Two rounds later he spiral fractured his own femur while attempting a buggy choke. It sounded exactly like someone breaking a plastic spoon 😓

It only took four years of training and exposure to countless social media posts strongly suggesting it, but I have finally decided to drop the "collect techniques like Pokémon" approach to BJJ in favor of a "build an actual game plan" approach (Evolve yr fav Pokémon, maybe? Never played the games)

Sharing a gym with a gaggle of 19 year olds who spend every waking hour on the mats is going to be the end of me. First they tap me out seven times in four minutes, then they're in the locker room talking about "if you shoot a gorilla in the head it will keep fighting you for ten seconds"

Other people have pointed this out, but it rules how BJJ is a sport where you can show up on a regular Tuesday and train with some of the best in the game. Our main instructor just won gold at IBJJF no gi worlds. Same dude who has to deal with the feeble guard passing attempts of yours truly

Today I finally hit one of the very first submissions I learned, three years ago. A sort of arm Americana (?) from the scarf hold. Although it's not in the drawing, I think you're supposed to lock your feet together at the end there, to keep the arm from wriggling out.

Cropped image from my BJJ notebook. A sequence of two drawings. From a scarf hold/kesa gatame, scissor your bottom leg under your opponent's arm, then throw it over that same arm. Finally, raise your hips from the mat to rotate their shoulder.

I'm so tired of reading about how much the tesla stock is falling or how public opinion is turning against musk or whatever. It's not enough! I don't know what that means! I want to see that man in a barrel and suspenders. I want to see him Qaddafi'd

One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

I've had mixed results from trying to bring my friends to BJJ class, so I changed tactics: I booked a room at a local community center and invited a whole bunch of people to come try to kick my ass

Two dudes grappling, a group of people are watching from the edge of the mats.My friend in the process of passing my guard. Me hitting a triangle choke on an old friend. Two exhausted bros, seconds after my glorious victory.

when the AI bubble finally collapses and everyone who spent a year smugly hyping it suddenly has to come crawling back with their tail between their legs, i just want to say i am not going to be the bigger person about it. i am going to be meaner than you can even believe

My girlfriend doesn't care about bjj and generally won't let me show her any techniques, but she makes up for it in other ways. For example, she headbutted some asshole who tried to grope her at a bar yesterday

they tried to bring a therapy dog into my room when i was recovering from surgery but i was high as balls and thought the nurse was asking if she could just stash a random dog in my room like maybe a dog she'd found outside? i yelled THIS IS NOT A ZOO at her
