🎃 It's Halloween, but you know what's not scary? Cultivated meat! 👻 It's real meat grown from animal cells, without raising & slaughtering animals. It can cut emissions, reduce land use & free up more space for nature. At our recent conference, attendees got to taste cultivated quail. 😋

Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

In this spirit, the DMA must be extended to social media. The European social media industry has been asking for this for the longest time. We know that we can take this market by storm if it is ever opened up to competition and freedom of movement.

Europe has made a sovereign choice: digital markets should be fair and contestable. 🇪🇺 Enforcing the Digital Markets Act means protecting that level playing field and creating the conditions for more companies to grow, innovate and compete in Europe.

Krill fishing is taking food out of the mouths of whales, seals and penguins. That's bad enough, but it gets worse. Krill also play an important role in the Earth's carbon cycle, helping to regulate our climate. That's why we're calling for an end to industrial krill fishing in the Southern Ocean.

Energy sovereignty starts with breaking our dependence on fossil fuels. Nuclear, wind, solar & geothermal give countries the tools to produce abundant, reliable energy domestically—strengthening energy security, reducing reliance on volatile global markets & building a more resilient future.

Extreme heat has killed at least 25,000 people in Western Europe alone this year. Instead of sitting around waiting for the next heatwave, leaders can take measures *now* to protect our communities. Make air conditioning accessible. Lower energy costs. Divest from fossil fuels. shorturl.at/8ijEn

Europe's silent heat death toll

It’s not news that it’s hot: this summer, we’ve had five major heatwaves. Extreme heat killed at least 25,000 people in Western Europe alone, according to a…

Record summer temperatures are wreaking havoc in Europe — but we don't have to accept a fatalistic view of the future. We're not locked in yet. There is still so much to save. It's a call to action for our governments to get comfortable with new climate approaches and technologies ASAP.

European State of the Climate: record heatwaves from the Mediterranean to the Arctic, while glaciers shrink and snow cover declines

Rapid warming in Europe is reducing snow and ice cover, while dangerously high air temperatures, drought, heatwaves and record ocean temperatures are affecting regions from the Arctic to the…

Heatwaves don't just put people at risk — they also make it harder for nature to do its job. As temperatures rise, plants become less efficient at photosynthesis, reducing their ability to absorb CO2 just when we need it most. actu.epfl.ch/news/heatwav...

Heatwaves hinder photosynthesis

An EPFL study shows that tropical forests regularly exceed the temperatures at which photosynthesis begins to fail, threatening the planet's ability to absorb carbon dioxide.

We've helped stop Belgium's nuclear shutdown! Two months after WePlanet won a court injunction freezing demolition, the Belgian government has ordered an immediate halt to all nuclear decommissioning work. And it has entered talks to take control of all seven of the country's reactors.

Building an online profile (or a few) with your work, activities & what others say about you = very useful: others know who they're talking to, whether to trust what you share, whether to collab. That's what we're building. Tying it to a government ID though? BIG Nope 😬 Read why that's very bad 👇

Age verification sounds reasonable until you realize it means every adult hands over their ID just to go online. We wrote about why this is a terrible idea and what should happen instead. https://proton.me/blog/keep-age-verification-from-killing-anonymity-online
