I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Arguments for taxing gas often go something like this: "Tax gas to help pay for public services and infrastructure." The problem is that this narrative can create a political disincentive to phase out some of our most harmful industries, from gambling to fossil fuels.

Data centres are a hot topic right now. The tension is between the important role data centres play as the backbone of our modern society and their environmental impacts, especially their water and energy use. We believe Australia can get the balance right with appropriate regulations.

Data centres are essential infrastructure for modern society, but they come with environmental trade-offs. A blanket "no" isn't a serious strategy. The better approach is smart regulation that requires new clean energy, greater efficiency and responsible development.

One of the unexpected consequences of making the air safer to breathe by reducing aerosol pollution has been a warmer planet. Reducing these aerosols has made the air significantly safer to breathe. But, the planet is now more absorbent of solar energy. Less reflective = more heat absorbed
