Sure, it's annoying to have to wait out a hold on a library book, but in a world where we're being told people are stupid and they don't read, how amazing is it that there are 7-100 people in your community RIGHT NOW wanting to read the same book as you?

From the outside, being an influencer looks like making a living by following your interests and having fun. I think that's why it's so aspirational for a lot of kids. The shitty reality has to be invisible, because it undermines an influencer's influence.

We need some more deep dives into what a shit job "influencer" is. No job security, hugely variable income, gotta keep feeding the content maw, gotta be "on" 24/7. All the worst bits of being a celebrity with none of the creative satisfaction of making art and a miniscule fraction of the reward.

friends, please: don’t use transreads dot org they claim to support trans authors, but take our entire texts, post them for free, fundraise off it, and have the gall to claim it’s about preservation they are literally taking money from trans creators and make it harder for us to keep creating

Thinking about how so many people I know said Don’t Look Up was so stupid and over the top and ridiculous but my environmental scientist brother was like “Nope, that’s exactly how it feels”
