Immigration may not be a defining issue in Michigan or Wisconsin, but the divide between Abolish ICE & Reform ICE isn’t going away. In today’s Substack, I argue Dems should unite around legalization, the one immigration policy both wings of the party can fight for. open.substack.com/pub/securing...

The Immigration Policy that Could Unite Democrats Again

I’ve been struggling to put into words what these past few weeks have felt like as a Latina lawyer who has spent my career trying to reform our immigration system. I’m grateful to @nytimesoped.bsky.social for giving me space to reflect on how we got here: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/17/o...

In my latest newsletter, I share what I’m learning right now about immigration policy — including a great podcast on the history of DACA, new research on the health impacts of enforcement, and a powerful ICE whistleblower story. Read here: open.substack.com/pub/securing...

US immigration officials picked up a blind Rohingya refugee last week in Buffalo, NY. Then, realizing they had no basis to deport him, they released him five miles from his home. He needed a walking stick and died trying to make his way back to his house: www.investigativepost.org/2026/02/25/b...

Thanks to the work of @kennedyhrc.bsky.social, we know that effective alternatives to family detention exist. Now, we need to push our leaders to phase out family detention and replace it with a more cost effective and humane alternative.
