A really funny complaint about the Zohran discount grocery store idea is that non-poor people could use it when there’s a grocery store half a mile from my grocery store that has everything cost 20% more that rich people go to because they don’t want to shop with normal people.
I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.

This is such a lazy piece. It's like "this is a price control, and price controls always fail." First, it's not a price control. It's a government subsidy. Second, price controls don't "always" backfire. They prevent gouging in emergencies and help regulate monopolies.

Genuinely one of the best adaptations of all time. Not only does it adapt to an entirely different setting Homer could have never imagined, it does so with possibly the best soundtrack in movie history.

Happy to see this! As a data analyst in the grocery sector, I’m very curious how they are managing such a large discount. I’m sure there are vendors offering good rates given their population, but that won’t make up the gap. I’m guessing the remainder is covered through city taxes.
Good thread here. I’ll also add in that sales are highly seasonal, so you can adjust your diet to match what’s on sale during that time. Things like hotdogs get massive sales in the summer, while large meal ingredients for roasts and such will get discounts around winter holidays.

Taking into this; just because someone isn’t championing your chosen cause as much as you doesn’t mean they don’t care. There’s too much shit in the world to fight every battle yourself. There’s lots of things in this world I don’t publicly outrage over, but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel it inside.

If you tried to do work on every injustice and horror on this earth, you would collapse into an exhausted ball of trauma it is absolutely fine for you to select a cause that is yours
99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up “Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers And visa versa
As much as I support these positions, the first two are only possible by replacing our constitution or passing a bunch of amendments to rewrite a large portion, neither of which will ever happen in this country.
