It's been such a privilege to write for Rascal, to write for you, and it would be really nice if I could do it next year as well. If you can sign up, please do. I would do so much better, the work world be so much better, if the site wasn't precious.
State of the Rascal: August 2026 www.rascal.news/state-of-the...
Layout complete, waiting on cover art, getting some trusted pals to proof read the pdf and catch obvious errors. Went past our August 1st target a little bit, but very happy with how dark ages is coming together.
Busily working on new games, but I shouldn't neglect mentioning my previous work. Check out We Contain Solitudes sevencrowsgames.itch.io/we-contain-s... and Girl by Moonlight evilhat.com/product/girl...
We Contain Solitudes by Seven Crows Games
A 2 player TTRPG about troubled souls trapped in a time loop that plays out in prose and soliloquies.

Yeah, pay attention to that “15/18” on this post. Long thread of many publishers’ games at the IPR booth — handy for assembling your future shopping-list, perhaps! (Or is that just me?)
15/18 And we reach the end of our tour with Evil Hat Productions including Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts, Girl by Moonlight, and Stewpot by Takuma Okada, author of Alone on a Journey.
We are -so close- to having Dark Ages ready for public playtest, and I am vibrating.
One last thought here, the relationship here is that without the publishers there is no product on a shelf, and without the designers there's no game to begin with. So while I respect and value the work that goes into making the books, and getting them onto shelves and into the mail..
Listening to @rascal.news radio hour talking about crediting of designers vs publishers. Really appreciate them talking about power dynamics wrt smaller/newer designers, and credits as a labour issue as much as anything else.

hey quick question from the Dark Ages mines—do y'all ever assume the mantle of the Anointed Heir, get with the MC to figure out if you're blessed by the gods or descended from some ancient queen or what, swear to lead your people to their destined glory, and start doing some absolutely *wild* shit
Ever since 2020, digital has become the default way that I play (with physical games a rare treat), but nonetheless it feels like such a Milestone to see your game in layout, printed out, on a table and being used. What delight!
First in person playtest of Dark Ages last night. The playtest packet is 90% complete, and this was a great opportunity to do a test print of all the play materials.

PSA on the Victoria Line tube in London. Phillipson and every other GC weirdo needs to take note.
There are great games in here, take a peek and get some!
OK, It's that time. <slams hand on the desk> Tell me ( and others) about your dope TTRPG!!! Include links.

if i had a penny for every time I wrote a historical fantasy game that ended up with human sacrifice in it, I'd have two pennies. which isn't much, but it's weird that it keeps happening... (Andrew & I are now writing mantles: world-straining, late-game playbooks. This is from the Heart of Summer)

Okay so Luke has slightly misrepresented me here, in that I am sleepy and have a headache, and I am by no means locked in. The rest is true though.
Andrew & I are locked the fuck in, and y'all are not prepared for what's coming your way when this playtest packet drops. get braced for some fraught, bloody, weird ambitious character and community drama, all you sickos

Why do you get angry if you have to look up a word while reading. Does it also piss you off to meet cool new people at a party
I played 4 ttrpgs in the past 2 days. Very grateful that I have so much more access to the hobby than I did two years ago. One of those games was our ongoing Low Cantrefs game, and my Sapling has become a Problem for their family and friends.
I'm picking fights through the medium of game design.
Andrew is being characteristically flippant, but it's true - after at this point 12 months of working on this thing we have finally worked out how to distill the game's pitch down to a single, pithy, hopefully-compelling sentence. To celebrate, ask us anything!
People are calling Dark Ages a post-apocalyptic, historical fantasy game of rights claimed, rights denied, personal ambition, and community strife. And they couldn't be more right!

Happy Pride! 🌈✨ I've just replenished community Copies of The Admirer, one of the playbooks I wrote for Thirsty Sword Lesbians (and there are plenty left of The Little Red, too). I'm really proud of the design work I did on it, so please check it out!
