Here's the thing about the rom com where you're only allowed to have sex one night of the year. I saw the trailer when I saw the Odyssey and it was extremely clear that the trailer hated the premise. It came up like once. Bodes well.

Lately I've been thinking that one thing a lot of this taps into is that there's sheer pleasure in learning a little about something on your own that that the existence of genuine expertise troubles. People LIKE bullshitting about - ancient Sparta or whatever - with their friends. You read a book
I wrote about the triumph of Doing Your Own Research and the stupid, nasty thing that is replacing some very recent history in real time. defector.com/were-just-go...
It's very very difficult for anyone to accept the simple and most straightforward explanation, which is also a tremendously common political paradigm: the democratic party is a coalition. The left part of the coalition has gotten bigger in recent years and there are fewer voters in the middle -
Neither faction is dominant, securing a Senate and House majority will rest on voters from both backing candidates of each.
I have a master's degree in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, I've studied the 'Odyssey' in Ancient Greek, and I've been writing about the ancient world for over a decade. This is my exhaustive review of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'. #Odyssey #classics talesoftimesforgotten.com/2026/07/23/a...
An Ancient Historian's Breakdown of Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' - Tales of Times Forgotten
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is perhaps the most highly anticipated new film of the 2020s. It has already received near-universal acclaim from film critics and earned more at the box office in its ...

I always think that so many kids want to be influencers because it's obvious to them that every normal job has either been destroyed or is going to be destroyed while the conditions of labor get worse and worse and middle class salaries buy less and less. So it's pretty rational, in my view!
It does kinda seem like the supply of influencers is functionally infinite, but the demand is limited.
I think the Michigan primary does show that both candidates are kind of weak relative to what you would expect, Stevens because she's so strange and El-Sayed in part because of so much Islamophobia. But, for me, I don't do debates about electability because the NOTION of doing something about it
I appreciate a lot of what they're trying to do, but every time they email me for money I email back to say I won't donate any until they say what they're going to do about the state supreme court which overturned the referendum. And I'm sure they don't care when it's one guy doing it but
Poetry is often highly symbolic, evoking ideas through vivid imagery and emotional metaphor. In "This Is Just To Say", the plums that the speaker refers to are actually a metaphor for some pears he ate, the icebox represents the bowl they were in, and breakfast stands in for an afternoon snack.
Can I just say this - most animals don't really have butts
Oh my god the dietician who is telling everyone in the White House to only eat steak and sauerkraut doesn't wipe his ass.

This is one of those things that really shows why the fact that the Dem establishment is confused about why voters want something different seems so absurd to normal people. I live in VA, and I had my referendum vote thrown out, too and no one, not even Louise Lucas, has really talked about it since
It’s so funny to be like 1) I’m not political, just look at what we’ve done at CBS and 2) cmon we’d only control a quarter of all content
why do these billionaires always speak as if they are powerless victims

People have to understand at some point that “our base is solid so our strategy should be pitched to republicans” was a hypothesis. Not necessarily the worst but still a hypothesis and one that turned out to be wrong. Time to move on
People still defending the Liz Cheney strategy in 2024, respectfully, have incurable shit for brains. She didn’t encourage any new votes from Republican defectors She cost support in the democratic base
My three-year-old was watching CNN when he turned to me gravely and asked “Daddy, why is the nice orange man firing the nice wine lady?” And when I told him “Because she became too woke to protect the reflecting pools,” he started crying.
Time for @ccjones.bsky.social and I to go halfsies on a proposal so I can take him to Antonios

At some point, we will have to grapple with the fact that no attempt to make any institution deemed liberal more appealing to conservatives or "restore trust" has ever had any positive effect. It's all just blood in the water for the sharks.
On days like this as you watch your sector slide into compliance with authoritarianism, it’s easy to get depressed. But too much work to do. Let AAU.edu have it. They are Quislings, each and everyone of them.
I will say, I have a ton of respect for the other position, strange as it may seem. Every horrible Mavs thing they've done has been based on the slim hope of maximizing their talent and whiffing badly and every time YEARS of my life would have been more fun if they'd just stayed the course
I honestly don’t know how anyone can be in the room when he says this kind of shit and not say ANYTHING. That’s not how you talk to people! Hit him with a rolled up newspaper or SOMETHING.
Trump says Jeanine Pirro "choked" and then snaps at a reporter who asks if her job is safe: "Don't ever talk again"
Hmmmmm don't know who to believe....
A new medical study says there is a link between an increase in minutes played in the games before an Achilles tear and a player suffering that injury. The NBA said that no relationship exists, according to its own internal research. Free to read: www.nytimes.com/athletic/748...
you have to admit it's a little funny that Aaron Rodgers immediately undermined the coordinated efforts to rehabilitate his image one last time
The other thing I've learned is that it's essentially meaningless to do this across universities anyway. At my university, RS grads do perfectly well because it's a well-ranked university with a well-regarded humanities program. Because it doesn't matter that much what you major in anyway.
This. Plus "don't make enough money" is absolute bullshit. We have literally mountains of data on the value of college degrees. There is no such thing as a major or college degree that is not "worth it" financially. It's right-wing bullsh*t & should be treated as such. bsky.app/profile/coop...
This is something I've been gnashing my teeth about for a decade. Moderates want to have the argument "who can win an election." They treat having the votes as a solution in and of itself. The last ten years have produced example after example of why that isn't true.
yeah, the issue with viewing elections as a linear algebra problem where you solve for the optimal policy platform is that you tend to generate candidates that cant credibly signal that they believe any of this
Thinking of experimenting with one of my classes this semester where there's just one reading a week. It's hard to give up so many beloved, useful readings but with declining reading ability and the specter of AI everywhere, focusing more attention on what we do in the classroom makes sense
Will they also eventually move to a mall? Perhaps Northpark?
