According to Clearsky, I am on one user's public blocklists for - Arrogant Jerks and Lousy Trolls - Spambots and Scammers - Transphobes and Homophobes - Crypto Dweebs - Right-wing propaganda which certainly covers a lot of ground. Pretty sure I'm not any of those things (except maybe the first).

Second, watching "Wasabi" in Paris, at a time when sushi restaurants were new in France. Jean Reno uses his fingers to scoop up a generous helping of wasabi from the pot on the table, obviously about to eat it raw. Collective gasp from half the audience, followed by nervous laughter from everyone.

Got me thinking.. What's the strongest reaction you've seen an audience member have to a scene in a cinema? During the birthday party scene in SIGNS I saw a whole row of young women literally throw their popcorn in the air like a cartoon.

Watching "Singles" in a theater in Belgium, and Matt Dillon's clueless rock musician character tells an interviewer that his grunge band Citizen Dick is "… huge in Europe … a big record just broke in Belgium". Half the people in the theater went "Awww …", sounding very sad.

I can smell Canada from here. (seriously, I smell woodsmoke, and although my weather app assures me that visibility is currently 10.2 miles and "excellent", the houses just 1 mile away are all but invisible in the haze)

It turns out the Booklens tool by “Citizens for Decency” will happily invent reviews of non-existent books. It’s most likely just generating random text, rather than doing any kind of lookup whatsoever. It’s probably a fake designed to drive traffic to their domain. Nothing to see here, folks.

My favorite Knights of Malta fact is that they have a Magistral Villa in Rome which has extraterritorial status (i.e. it's a bit of sovereign Knights-of-Malta territory on Italian soil), and the keyhole of the gate frames a perfect view of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

The distant dome of a large church, framed by trees and seen through the narrow opening of a keyhole.

My favorite Knights of Malta fact is that it's a sovereign nation with international observer status in the UN, and it's the only remaining sovereign nation using the Maltese scudo, which is one of the only currencies in use that's not decimal, which makes writing billing software fun 😂

Name your fav song in a non-English language (perhaps not my absolute favorite, but certainly one of my favorites: this is actually two languages; Fabrizio de André's "Creuza de Mä", with alternate verses sung in Zeneize by Mauro Pagani and in Galego by Joan Isaac) www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-m_...

Technically, it's an Explanatory Note published by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of Faith and there's a lot of complicated church language. Reduced to its essentials, though, Leo's message can be effectively summarized as "We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thang".

Hey THE FEYWILD JOB is out in less than a week but if you haven't preordered this is a great time to do it no matter where you like to shop for books. I hear B&N is having a sale, I think that's cool, and it's hardcover so a discount could be nice there is also an audiobook release too! VICO ORTIZ!

In accordance with my usual rigorous standards of professionalism, I have just used the phrase "hotter than Satan's taint" in a public work-related communication with a colleague, so we'll see how that goes.

I think the question we're all asking is: how long before J.D. Vance rushes to join the Nazi-adjacent white supremacist schismatics and declares that they, not Woke Pope Leo, are the true heirs of St. Peter? By the sound of it, these are absolutely his kind of Catholics.

a fun fact about SSPX is that the main founder was a Vichy regime sympathizer and one of his founding bishops was an outright Holocaust denier. both excommunicated in the 80s I’m no JPII stan, but you KNOW that was one thing former Polish Resistance member Karol Wojtyla was NOT going to stand for
