I don't like "Final Fantasy style" turn-based combat and find it boring. Grid-based systems like Fire Emblem and XCOM are overwhelmingly more interesting IMO

I'm going to be that guy and say that society is beating the imagination out of us. Giving up your imagination is a psychological defense mechanism for dealing with the immense pain caused by being able to see how much better society could be.
