🧵UK media has been duped about net-zero (again) The playbook is identical: 1️⃣ Find a big scary number 2️⃣ Speed-dial non-specialist hacks 3️⃣ Do say “serious economic damage” 4️⃣ Don’t say “we pretended gas is free” 5️⃣ That's it! Many papers still fell for it 🤷

Have you tried and failed to make sourdough when everyone else got the knack of it during the pandemic? Were you tempted to pelt the Youtubers who claimed it was "simple" with the rock-hard results of your attempts? Worry not! There's a shortcut... Miso sourdough See alt text for recipe.

Miso sourdough

• 2 tablespoons miso (Must be unpasteurised! I recommend Clearspring brown rice miso)
• 3 cups flour
• 1 cup & 2 teaspoons water

Knead lightly and place overnight in covered bowl in warm place.

In the morning, add:

¼-½ teaspoon powdered yeast
½ cup flour (dough should be moist but not sticky)
Seeds (optional)

Knead and place in oiled and floured (or nonstick) bread pan and leave in a warm place for 3-4 hours.

(If you want to omit the yeast and do a natural rise, it will take another 7 hours.)

When doubled in size, bake at 175 for 25 minutes.

Masked, armed Icelandic coast guard yesterday boarded a ship of the Captain Paul Watson Foundation. All aboard were detained. The crew were there to document & protest the slaughter of fin whales, 32 of whom have been killed this season including pregnant females, in spite of a global moratorium.

A masked, armed guard is visible through a door on the the anti-whaling ship Bandera as Icelandic coast guard boarded and arrested the captain and crew. The second longest whale in the world, fin whales number only 120,000 individuals globally. They are listed as vulnerable in the UNHCR Red List, yet Iceland continues to allow hunting. For years , a single wealthy individual, Kristjian Loftsson, has accounted for most fin whale killings for decades, taking more than 200 per year.

The Daily Telegraph has raced through all five stages of climate denial this week. But this is, perhaps, the most ridiculous column so far: "Without minimising the severe downsides…especially on some poorer nations, many in Britain would enjoy the kind of warmer climate predicted by modellers..."

And note how the frontpage of the Telegraph juxtaposes news of her comment piece with a huge image of wildfires burning close to Sizewell nuclear power plant. One of her promises: "We will build nuclear power"

Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

Burnham promises ‘pragmatic’ approach to North Sea oil and gas

PM tells reporters the government cannot ignore the energy resource ‘when people are struggling’

It's alive! 🧌 The primordial soup, aka my new bathtub-pond, has burst out with babies. Yes...mosquito larvae! Any ideas on how to bring in some insect-eaters? A friend advised that I scoop a bit of drying mud from a natural pond, in hopes it contained frog or newt spawn. Is that how its done?

The greenish water is speckled with wiggling mosquito larvae.

asphalt is such an ancient invention. roads should be made with recycled materials that do not give off heat and that charge the vehicles that travel upon them.

1. Did u know?As climatic challenges get evermore extreme it's more important to help garden wildlife. Our trail camera shows we have 2 foxes who regularly visit. We put our scraps out for them to feed on & there's always drinking water from our wildlife ponds... 🦊🌍🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱💧
