I have been in situations where someone thinks "mutual respect" means subservience and obedience from one person and does not require accountability or clear communication from both parties. There is no amicable way forward due to this power dynamic, but it becomes pretty clear to everyone else.

So they'll have to wait in their home country for years, losing their job and will likely be unable to afford to keep a residence here. It seems designed to effectively end immigration to the US.

The Voting Rights Act is essentially dead and it’s quite possible that we will, like when a similar SCOTUS gutted civil rights at the fall of Reconstruction, see a disappearance of much of the Black congressional representation, especially in the most heavily Black states, which are in the South.

thinking abt my 11th grade US history class in Greensboro, NC. yes, my teacher told us the Civil War was fought over states’ rights—but today, it strikes me even more how she barely touched on post-Reconstruction backlash. if she hadn’t, perhaps I’d be a little more prepared to live in these times.
