Proud Canadian living in #LdnOnt. (see banner above) Interested in SF, science, games both video and tabletop, a little bit of finance & economics, and alas US and Canadian politics because I have to. Used to write until I went broke trying.

This is the exact same behavior I saw with cheaters on steam. They couldn’t believe everyone else wasn’t cheating. They were sure everyone else was cheating but just hadn’t been caught. It’s cool to see this mental defect move from 15 year old boys to powering our economy….

My answer is LOL ROFL (dickbrain) The terminally AI-pilled can't even *imagine* some people have *never* asked stochastic parrots to cheat at their job for them.

All the people who are anti-Al or want to
slow Al progress, I have one question:
If Al disappeared tomorrow, could you
still get through an entire workday
without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other
 Al tool?

Imagine Al was suddenly banned.
Would you actually be willing to give it
 up?

Indeed, for 2026 Democrats, the "fringe opinion" is unwavering support for Israel. Centrists who pretend to be gobsmacked that someone criticizing Israel's genocide in Gaza might do well in a Democratic primary are announcing that they don't know anything about the current state of politics.

I mean this sincerely: I think pro Israel people really need to begin internalizing that this is not a fringe opinion anymore and in fact is very statistically likely to be the average view of any brown Democratic candidate for office or any candidate under the age of 50

Just now on @Morning_Joe:
@AbdulElSayed was asked by @WillieGeist whether his critique of Israel is about @netanyahu or Israel itself. He made it clear his problem is with Israel. Lots of references to
"apartheid" and "genocide" that
"pre-date" BiBi.

Air quality. I grew up in the Los Angeles basin in the 70s and 80s and remember having to stay inside because the smog was so bad - Stage 2 smog alerts, they were called. Apparently they haven't had one of those since 1988. Haven't had a stage one smog alert since 2003.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"

Been locked out of bsky for the past 3 hours because they did their age-gate thing. Finally got the date-of-birth prompt to work a few minutes ago. Of course, they already had my date of birth on file. [sarcasm] Golf clap, support. Well done. [/sarcasm]

As an aside, if any other professionals were as incompetent as certain journalists, they'd be sacked and disbarred. But in the rightwing press, gross incompetence appears to be a qualification. After all, without its bullshitters for hire, how else would capital deny, deflect and distract?

I guess I'm in the top panel; the Moon takes bigger hits a lot more frequently from "natural" meteorites, there's no life there to suffer from the impact, and I've grown increasingly disdainful of nostalgia. I'm far from a Musk fan, but this isn't the sort of thing I despise him for.

I fear we might see a new alignment between a radical right death cult and a rural revivalist "simplicity" drive, which views collapse and a return to "organic" communities as a solution to decadent urbanism. A century ago this convergence led to a very bad place. www.monbiot.com/2023/10/04/t...

For those who don't know, former PM Justin Trudeau was an amateur boxer. Before he became PM, his victory in a charity match with a Conservative senator got him a lot of attention in Ottawa circles and may have started the push that later won him the leadership of the Liberals. (1/2) #CdnPoli

WTF! Poilievre setting up a fake sparring match to pretend he's better than Trudeau. Get in the ring with him in a real match you POS! #cdnpoli

When the House Hippo first appeared on Canadian televisions, it seemed that everyone wanted one to appear in their homes. This commercial became a part of the Canadian cultural landscape and even today, the House Hippo is beloved by Canadians. 🧵 1/10

A blurry photo of a small, dark hippopotamus-like creature grazing on a dimly lit indoor floor near green buckets labeled "JAM," with a spotlight casting shadows.

Fae: “Tell us your true name.” Me: “…Just my name? No birthdate, no SSN, no fingerprint scan, no address, no mother’s maiden name? Are you sure you’ve even got the right Olivia Waite? There’s like six.” Fae: “What the hell kind of bargains have you been making?” Me: “They call it health insurance.”

I lost my 550+ day survivor in "The Long Dark" last night to a fluke. Encountered a bear at close range, either no warning audio or I missed it due to real-world noise, which mauled me *twice* without any control input. While walking to a nearby abandoned car to hide in, a wolf finished me off.

Almost *everything* you see in this format, whether infinite power cubes or solar powered houses for the homeless that fold out of suitcases or French "bread libraries" for the poor is liberal catnip bullshit by content farms. Stop being idiots. Thank you.

Well, actually, kinda, yeah, close to what happened. It's not for nothing that Jack Dorsey, who started the place and was on its board, basically ran away when the trans folks and furries scared off all the crypto bros he assumed would be the natural demographic here (they went to Nostr instead).

Bluesky often seems like a project run by tech people who place great value on its architectural differences from Twitter, which nobody cares about, while not understanding how they walked ass-backwards into having a userbase (whomst they fear and despise)
