If you stood on Briggate at 8am on a weekday in 1957, and stood there again in 2026, in which year could you reach more of the city in half an hour? Samuel Bancroft has crunched the numbers. Since the 1950s, Leeds has got bigger - but the city has effectively shrunk.

My favourite bit of The Odyssey is when Agamemnon tells Odysseus to not put his dick in the toaster and the rest of the movie has people noting that Odysseus isn't a toaster fucker so it's not great advice

Labour has closed genuine safe routes, particularly family reunification, and tried to play off existing, restricted, routes, such as Community Sponsorship which has been around for a decade and work/study visas, while blocking people from high asylum rate countries getting work and study visas...

It is a constant source of anger to me how, without dismissing the harm Tories caused, so many people who condemned the Conservatives anti-asylum/immigration policies are happy to defend Labour's when they are actively worse in practice. Bad policy doesn't cease to be bad based on who implements it.
