While Zelenskyy hosts Iftars for his Muslim troops, fought for freedom for the occupied & displaced Crimean Tatar minority before the full-scale invasion, works with the Ichkerian (free Chechen) resistance & recieved honors from their govt in exile—Diversity is Unity is Strength
…meanwhile DC has a bunch of Cosplay Crusaders who didn’t plan for Iran fighting back, dngaf even about Christian EU allies and CERTAINLY dngaf about local casualties, flailing about uselessly & very publicly while the Gulf burns—who, now, holds the cards of diplomatic power?
❗️Zelenskyy: I am not in a position to think about how to find a compromise that would be acceptable to everyone — I must protect the Constitution, the independence of my country, and the people.
I know it's not as horrific as a tan suit, but the President of the United States wore a fucking ball cap to honor the return of the remains of U.S. soldiers killed in battle. That happened. Class will always out.
the reverse version of those “evolution of man” drawings
Imagine you're paying like $100 a month or whatever for Claude and realizing the government used the same shit to kill schoolchildren in Iran. And they're using your tax money to pay for it. So you're paying Claude twice to kill kids. Crazy.
amazing how the entire machine can pivot within 24 hours. no need to slowly upsell the argument; just issue new marching orders

I think it’s important to remember that as into social media as we are, huge numbers of Brits & Americans don’t spend time online & get their info from newspapers, tv & what colleague say at the pub/work. As William Gibson wisely said, “The future is already here—it's just not evenly distributed”
Took my 15yo on their first vinyl shopping excursion. They bought a copy of “Songs from the Big Chair” and asked where to find Black Sabbath. The kids are alright.
Definitely a head-scratcher that many will find unsatisfying. But from a purely visual standpoint, it’s never not interesting and even captivating at times. My ★★★ review of Mamoru Oshii’s “Angel’s Egg” (1985):

REFLECTION IN A DEAD DIAMOND: I naively just expected a stylish and stylised spy films tribute and had underestimated Cattet/Forzani! This mad narrative kaleidoscope of an actor’s psychosis is so brimming with visual brilliance and invention, one viewing isn’t enough!
You know it’s going to be a good list when it kicks off with 2022’s madcap @hundredsofbeavers.bsky.social.

My manager called me to glow about hearing about the review on numerous calls that day, all with people that didn’t know I was his client. But he asked “Is this how you want to be known around town?” I realized I didn’t and that my critic career had to be over. Thus I’ve been all love all the time.
I spent the first 10 years of my career as a famously vicious film critic. I was effusive with love but wrote some famous takedowns that often went viral. There was a 2 month period where my careers overlapped. I wrote a SAVAGE takedown of an admittedly deserving film that went around town…
And now I keep my negative film opinions to myself. You guys don’t need to see me kick other filmmakers in the nuts. And I have been all the happier for it. The best thing to do with a bad movie is learn from it and otherwise never think of it again.
