Southern politics had settled into a truce where African Americans got guaranteed representation in exchange for Republican statewide dominance. SCOTUS ended the truce. I'm convinced we're getting an entirely different Southern party system as a result, we just don't know what that will look like

Oh wait the billionaires behind Jay Bhattacharya’s fake journal denying COVID risk also made more money if they kept their factories going by denying COVID risk??

Gotta rant… I am not going to see the Elizabeth Holmes movie and it’s making me kind of crazy that it’s becoming a phenomenon, because the Theranos story is about who got fooled, not who fooled them. This jaunty @wired.com piece is reasonable all things considered www.wired.com/story/how-el...

How Elizabeth Holmes Tricked WIRED—and Everyone Else

WIRED was the first magazine to cover Theranos and its enticing billionaire founder. There were warning signs even then.

As a teenager I worked at a summer camp at a local middle school. The computer teacher didn't like that I knew more about computers than she did (despite knowing very little) so had me removed from the class after a few days. They put me in the pool. Despite the fact that I couldn't swim.

In honor of the fired lady tell me about your shortest job tenure. I worked at a candy store for less than 2 weeks when I was like 16

It's absolutely assets. Which is why the concept of the ridiculously wealthy being millionaires hasn't been a thing in probably decades. And why "multi-millionaire" became a thing. Even many of those people are closer to the rest of us and those who are completely destitute than to billionaires now.

Speaking of money, help settle something: I always thought a millionaire was somebody who earned a million dollars a year. But apparently there is another camp that thinks a millionaire is someone whose *total assets* are a million dollars or more. Which is correct?
