The proper analogue here is a shitty car. If your car is always breaking down you have to keep paying to fix it—you can't get to work without a car. Because you keep dumping money into the shitty car, you never save enough money to buy a better car. (Btw I was an English major.)

Some people have suggested I haven’t done the background reading, but it’s not a deep idea. It’s from a passage that’s four sentences long.
