Willa Cather Memorial Prairie, on the Nebraska-Kansas state line south of Red Cloud, is on slopes dropping from a highly dissected loess tableland. The fields to the south are on Holocene and Late Pleistocene loess. The prairie may be on Middle Pleistocene loess and paleosols, exposed by erosion.

Satellite image view from Google Maps, with the Willa Cather Memorial Prairie marked along highway 281. The prairie is on slopes cut by many small channels, and has a reddish tinge from the grasses growing on it.

Musk is, in many ways, a true representative of his contingent: wholly uninterested in the consumption of traditional culture, which he clearly regards as boring, while foaming and frothing at the mouth that it must *remain* traditional, locked away in a museum he won't fund or visit

I’d guess a full 1/4 of active paleontologists today wanted to be Alan Grant when they grew up. I don’t know if another actor has had such a tangible impact on science. I hope Sam Neill knew that at least a little. Rest easy.

Absolutely crushing news. His accomplishments were many, but the original Jurassic Park and its characters transformed palaeontology, and was so fundamental and formative to so many people on here - we feel and share your pain xxx

They are just absolutely annihilating public lands in this country and open them up to drilling and mining, rolling back literally every environmental protection they can get their hands on, and giving huge bailouts to the coal industry. It’s going to take decades to undo the environmental damage.

Oh HELL yeah! First look at the California Science Center’s new Space Shuttle Endeavor exhibit in the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. Opening in November, and I can’t wait!

You are, directly or indirectly, made up of material from plants. Plants are almost entirely made up of atmospheric CO2 and H2O. Atmospheric CO2 and H2O has all been outgassed from volcanoes (at least once). You are volcanic volatiles. 🙂

Scotland’s home to grey and common seals, often seen resting on shores that inspired folktales. 🦭 In mythology, seals become selkies - mythical beings who shift from seal to human by shedding their skin. Some say they came ashore on Midsummer’s Eve and danced in the moonlight. ✨ #Nature #Wildlife

Awe inspiring research by some amazing people. This adds an important new perspective on the second largest mass extinction. I knew Jaemin and Dori (now at the Perot Museum) during my time at Berkeley, both amazing young scientists. Congrats to them Cindy and collegues. This is a very cool flora!

"Scientists don't want you to know-" Buddy there are so many things I, as a scientist, want you to know and the only thing stopping me from writing more papers and posts about it and then starting a podcast to tell you even MORE things is that I am limited by hours in the day
