It's the birthday of two men, both born in Detroit, who have been singularly committed, in utterly different ways, to their arts. Happy birthday to Thomas Ligotti and Jack White.
the funny thing about ais revealing that if something just expresses nonstop positivity people invariably come to find that thing indespensible is that dogs hacked human cognition in exactly that way 40k years ago
top 10 "cryptids" - Flatwoods Monster - Fresno Nightcrawlers - Pascagoula Humanoid - Sandown Clown - Loveland Frogman - Enfield Horror - Hopkinsville Goblins - Skunk Ape (distinct from bigfoot!!!) - Mothman - Michigan Dogman
I feel so bad for this character (whose life I am controlling)
If you haven't read this... maybe you should! (Very creepy.)
Hey Bluesky peeps, could you help spread the word? Right now my horror novel BEDFELLOW is on sale for $1.99 on Kindle and Bookshop. I have no idea how long the sale will last. www.amazon.com/Bedfellow-Je... bookshop.org/p/books/bedf...
Slightly diminish a book: "The Book of the Used -- Like New Sun"
Slightly diminish a book: • Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Busybody.
PIG AT A WEDDING is a one-page TTRPG where you must sneak a pig into a wedding and release it at the most traumatic possible moment. PDF, text-only version, and a largely unrelated dev diary here: www.patreon.com/posts/pig-at...
Vermonty friends, check this out! (I have driven past the exit in the preview many times)
G'morning. Still looking for 40 followers of my pre-launch page for #TheWorldsBetweenUs Kickstarter. $100 ad buy and two days of talking to people & handing flyers out at a con resulted in ONE(1) signup. So that's awful. www.kickstarter.com/projects/one... Any help is appreciated.
Is this one of my best library photos so far? Our library is so well loved, even the neighborhood turkeys are lining up to find their next favorite reads :)
Woo, Titanium Court is out! (Long story short, when @catacalypto.bsky.social says a game is special, you have to play it)
Name your top three favorite guitarists. Genre doesn’t matter, just three guitarists whose work blows you away. * Bill Orcutt * Marc Ribot * Mary Halvorson (Ouch, almost impossibly hard to pick my top three. Sorry, my other favorites...)
Name your top three favorite guitarists. Genre doesn’t matter, just three guitarists whose work blows you away. • Robert Fripp • Timo Korhonen • Julian Bream
If an AI was a good creative co-brain it would say; this bit’s shit; that’s weird; you wrote that metaphor already; who talks like that?; wow the snarky girl suddenly got polite; who cares what a tree looks like; bored now!; that rhymed, cut it; what does this add?; you spoilt the joke…
Steve Aylett's The Book Lovers is remarkable. It has the densest occurrence of profound and hilarious one-liners of any book I've ever read (except maybe Steve Aylett's The Heart of the Original, which would be an excellent companion piece).
🏰 Upon reading this cryptic message, you can’t help but think that this is a thinly-veiled attempt at teasing an upcoming announcement. Perhaps as soon as tomorrow... 👑
Just seen on a neighbor’s front door: “THE FORCE IS LIKELY NOT WITH YOU.”
I found all the recorders! They were in the crushed cardboard box labeled "recorders," but first I had to take out all the boxes on top, one of which was labeled "MISC - PLEASE SORT THIS BOX" (which I had never done and still haven't. But I did take out all the corroded batteries that were in there)
The "ai is just a tool like any other" argument is so dumb. It's a bad tool. Do you rent your hammers from a creepy tech bro? One who is drooling to jack up that rent once its catastrophic failure rate falls just a bit more? Even it you could make good art with a plagiarism machine, you shouldn't.
Happy Downfall-of-Sauron Day to you. But remember: "Always after a defeat and a respite, the Shadow takes another shape and grows again."
starting to think this "metaverse" idea doesn't have legs
Meta is shutting down its VR metaverse on June 15th.
CODING procedural generation is not the same as LLMs lol. What the fuck are we even doing here
I found this recycled folder, which ended up accidentally labeled "FOUL ORCHIDS", for my manuscript. But now I think I need to call the book Foul Orchids -- better come with a reason for that to make sense
"Computer-generated prose" is not necessarily LLM-produced prose. Code, created by hand, that combines words in ways that surprise even the author is an art form. (One of the lesser reasons I hate LLMs is my suspicion that they've destroyed that art form)
Titanium Court is great! I love the graphics and sound (sometimes simple is better than elaborate) and the writing is consistently cracking me up. Looking forward to the full game
