The match against France is actually quite important for Tuchel and the squad. A good performance (even if losing) and things will be kind of ok, if we get blown away then it will be like the local elections for Starmer, things could destabilise quite quickly

Here's an unpopular opinion: I think the social media ban for under 16s is good. It's not perfect, better if algo feed companies treated as publishers, but the ban will do good. Yes lots of kids will get round it but based on Aus, less than half of kids will be on soc media. At a basic level...(1/2)

This is good. Amongst folk I know evidence of capital subbing for labour, raising productivity but with uncertain consequences for those on the out. One example: friend runs bunch of factories for a FTSE 50, Lab's increased labour costs meant they put in machines they'd been vacilating about (1/X)

Is this productivity rebound real, and has it been bought at the cost of higher unemployment? open.substack.com/pub/gileswil... my 'stack following the earlier piece by @chrisgiles.ft.com

When the father of a murdered son makes a public statement saying "we do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension", then I believe it's incumbent on any news outlet reporting on Farage's comments to ensure people know he has chosen to disregard the family's wishes.

Apart from the fact that the Republican party is a raging binfire, God is neither male nor female. References to God as "King" or "Father" are in line with a system in which men were (largely) dominant. God is beyond human understanding. And so yes, if God exists, God is most likely nonbinary.

RNC Chair Joe Gruters: "Tala-freako is a creep. He's a vegan. He thinks God is nonbinary. He wants to mutilate children."

Vetting. Press office response. Attitude towards Jew-hate in general. A belief that Zack Polanski's Jewishness shields them from issues of antisemitism. These are just a few issues that the Green party appear completely unprepared to face up to. www.jewishnews.co.uk/eight-questi...

Eight questions for the Green Party after Makerfield candidate fiasco

While the party does not appear able to answer most of these, perhaps readers will consider them

Still no answer to the Q: What would Andy do that's different. Can't be the change candidate without saying something about the change that voters will understand (don't count the 'new political conversation stuff'). Doesn't have to be a lot. Just a thing, something. Otherwise you're Kamala Harris

Question Andy Burnham has to answer: what would you do differently to Keir Starmer. And he has to answer in a way that doesn't make the bond markets sh*t the bed. So, immediately implementing social care without any tax rises, that's a no

Issue for the Burnham supporters in govt, what's their sanction? If they say, announce a timetable PM, and he says no, what then - they resign, chaos and the contest comes before Burnham is in parliament. Soft left and left don't want Streeting but he's prob marginal favourite for a contest held now

Zack Polanski shares dozens of posts a day. Likes scores more. He has not shared, or even, I believe, liked, a single one condemning the growing rogues’ gallery of hideous individuals, like this one, standing for his party. Not one.

Newcastle Green Party candidate Tina Ion says "Israel must be eradicated. Even if it means killing every single Zionist.". Is Ion one of the "99%" of candidates whom party leader Zack Polanski stands behind?

Season 6 episode 9 of Star Trek Voyager, when 7 of 9 downloads too much information and starts coming up with wild conspiracy theories, was oddly prescient of the impact of internet / social media has had on people if slightly underplayed the madness.

Closest was 50 years ago this year. Hughie Green's unhinged rant at the end of the Opportunity Knocks 1976 Christmas special (for those not around, huge talent show thing, 18m viewers). Can't find proper vid but the audio gives the sense. *He* could've been Brit Trump www.youtube.com/watch?v=64z1...

Does Britain have a celebrity that could be like Donald Trump in the future? What’s the British version of Donald Trump?
