We won. Thousands of kids in Seattle will not go hungry this school year because we organized, fought hard, and won. Huge credit to @mayor.seattle.gov Katie Wilson for pushing the universal free school meals proposal. It’s her victory too.

WOW. New announcement from Seattle CMs Strauss, Hollingsworth, and Foster saying they will fund universal school meals starting in the fall after all by using the general fund. Hard to see this as anything but a realization of the high political price they paid for their votes yesterday.

I think instead of complaining about critics, councilmembers would do well to consider what's at the heart of the criticism—in this case, the concern that kids truly will continue to go hungry at school, as they do today, simply because they're over the income cutoff or their parents don't apply.

Read this before you believe the news. Big picture, after the 2020 drop, public school enrollment is *not* sharply dropping, and the largest share of staffing (teachers) isn’t changing much on a per pupil basis. I like how this analysis shows trends by locale—city, suburbs, towns, and rural.

Handful of detainments here by the reflecting pool. They are being done a variety of officers, including Monroe County Sheriff, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State Police, US Marshals, a county in Texas I can’t make out, and a county in New York I can’t make out.

We had to bike down to Pioneer Square to watch the World Cup game in Seattle with thousands of people. The bocce courts made it more fun for my kids. Totally worth it!

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson just appeared at a rally on the steps of city hall to speak in support of her proposal to renew the Seattle Transit Measure with a 0.15% sales tax increase. The city council is discussing the measure at a 9:30am meeting this morning.

World Cup might be the closest thing we’ll get to world peace

Absolutely heart wrenching. Too many times have people driven past me (while I’ve been biking) without giving me enough room, when they could have easily veered into the oncoming lane bc there was no traffic. This can be so unnerving! But people riding bikes shouldn’t have to have nerves of steel.
