Took a detour to the lake today. The waters were warm but nice, and a gentle breeze rustled through the reeds. Found a great spot to sit down with my feet in the water and enjoy the gentle sound of the waves.

Photo of a lake. The sun is shining from a cloudless sky while sailing boats bob in the calm waters.

What are five things in your upcoming release? (End of this year) Born Within the Clouds has: - m/m romance - first love - childhood best friends to lovers - X fell first, Y fell harder - the beauty and horror of growing up queer in a small, remote mountain town - late 90s/early 2000s nostalgia

What are five things in your upcoming release? (okay, in my case, novel entering the homestretch of writing) One Heart Together has: • t4t lesbian romance • Tohoku history • reclaiming Armenian culture in diaspora when you're queer • combat dolls • a beach at Big Sur

Today, I made first contact with an editor. How exciting! I'm so nervous. A sample edit is in the works. If all goes well, the first round of editing should start soon. Oh boi, self-publishing sure is wild!

Someone once asked me for advice about signing with a small publisher, and here were the two things I told them: First: Look at what they publish. Would you buy any of it? If not, do not publish with them. Second: Do they offer anything better than self-publishing? If not, don't sign.

As general advice: 1. Anyone can say they are a publisher and doesn't mean they're one 2. If a press has shit covers, no advances, no distribution, they're not doing you any favors. This is a business relationship. They have to business 3. You have power and don't have to accept shit--

No one should apologize for writing using complex vocabulary or atypical structure or sentences or experimental approaches, especially in this day and age. There is also an argument to be made that sometimes traditional approaches unwittingly support the status quo. (Note I said sometimes.)

I spent the whole weekend playing this game called Vintage Story (survival sandbox block game). I'm terribly addicted and can't stop thinking about it and my little farm. Guys, you don't understand: I have to domesticate chickens and prepare for winter. What do you mean, it's a work day?

We had a lot of rain during the past weeks, but now summer has burst through the door and with it the first heatwave of the year. This snippet of my story takes place in early September. Meet Aleksander, my second MC, and beware: He swears a lot. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Aleksander was safe. Nothing had happened to him. Dani must have kept an eye on him. He was fine. He was in Canada with a witch who had raised him, who had kept him safe before. He was fine.
Evan should have checked in on him. He hadn't answered David or Alessandro's texts either. He couldn't.
Soft rain pitter-pattered onto the metal roof of the van. Fingers shaking, Evan tapped the call button in the upper right corner. He held the phone to his ear.
"You're lucky I bought unlimited data," Aleksander said.
The restaurant he was at had to be busy, chatter in the background, distant music.
"Hey." The greeting was choking for air.
"Hey." Aleksander's voice softened.
You okay?"
"Yap, all good. Physically in peak form, good as always. Got checked out by a MD and everything. Head, lungs, blood work. Tip top, or at least not worse? Mentally, I'm a bit fucked up, but you know, what's to be expected, right?"
Evan held the phone tighter. "Right.'"

Welcome to a new week of #WIPSnips! It's been raining nonstop here for about a week, thus today's word: rain. I am not complaining because we were definitely in a drought, but the constant rain makes me super sleepy. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
