Say something true about yourself that's deeply misleading without context. I'll go first: The summer I was 15 years old, I was constantly in and out of police cars.

Because it apparently needs to be said: I have never fucking used the AI/LLM/chatbot/plagiarism machine and I never fucking will. If you use it, I think you're a bad person.
I am deeply blessed to have Cass and Natania in my life, somehow our mutual madness keeps us on an even keel.
I just gotta say, thank fuck for @mrmaresca.com and @natania.bsky.social, bc we do a lot to keep each other sane. I understand it may not *seem* like that to those who witness our unhingery. But I swear it's true. 😅
SEASON OF THE SERPENT is the final novel in The Nameless Republic trilogy (2021-2026). It's the punchiest, twistiest, riskiest, most gut-punching, wide-ranging, experimental--& therefore the most "Suyi Book"--of the 3 so far. Out next month (Aug 18), with notes on events & book swag coming soon.
authors you should absolutely quote post this with your fall releases, I am finding out about so many cool titles that I hadn't heard about
Hey folks! I'm going to have a little medical downtime in early September (cataract surgery) so I'm taking advantage of that enforced rest to offer 4 writing mentoring sessions at $750/each.
🧵 Three things new @laworldcon.bsky.social attendees & 1st-time Hugo Awards voters sometimes don’t know: 1) You don’t have to vote on every category for your votes to count. EX: Just because you don’t have time to read every Hugo-nominated book doesn’t mean you can’t vote on films & visual arts.

I swear, some day documents are gonna get released that reveal Carville was Republican operative the whole time.
"I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker ... if he becomes a force in the Democratic Party, I am out of here," James Carville says on Fox this morning. Reminder: The Left Insurgency airs tonight on CNN at 8p ET.

There's definitely inspiration drawn from NYC, Boston, Montreal, Mexico City, and how they were divided and organized and factionalized into neighborhoods in late 19th/early 20th century, even if that's not the exact time-period influence for the rest of the setting.
@mrmaresca.com You know I'm a massive fan, but I wanted to ask you a random question about Maradaine...how much is based on big cities like NY in the early half of the 20th century. I only ask b/c I had an idea stumble into my brain that definitely has some commonalities with Maradaine!
Texas being low on gun ownership seems off, but if it's "Household gun ownership", then it might be measuring "percent of households with guns" and thus House With A Gun and House With Eight Hundred Guns are counted the same.

One thing I would really love to stop happening is folks putting their personal opinion as a “we” as if it represents the consensus of all fandom. My dude, you’re not the Lorax, you don’t speak for the trees.
There's something deeply weird about dudes who refer to "the West" with a capital W like it's where the elves are returning to.
Musk was humiliated in his interview with The Economist editor Zanny Minton Beddoes. She called him out on his bullshit, pointed out his lies and ignorance and extreme prejudice. We need more interviews like that. This is the response of the world’s thinnest-skinned man.
STET by Sarah Gailey is *brilliant*. What a masterpiece of a structurally experimental short story. How have I never seen this before? I get that not every story can be like this, but this grapples with the actual philosophical problem of AI as it has manifested in society. firesidefiction.com/stet

Nowhere has science fiction gotten it more backwards over and over again than its absolute favorite topic: AI. I'm still reading new stories about AI being misunderstood and mistreated by humans. Even when AI is shown as bad, it's because it's a hyperintelligent evil, not because it's stupid.
