I feel like I did my whole career wrong. Just a big ol' black hole of bad choices. In reality I just navigated it the best I could, had success and failures like anyone else, but man it feels grim right now.

There is a bizarre, persistent belief by hiring managers that you must have experience in their specific game or precise genre in order to do your job. This is wrong, and stupid. I hadn't created progression systems for a FPS before Black Ops 4. You know, a high profile game. Worked out fine.

A certain studio I was at had a subscription model that they aggressively pushed. Surprise surprise, that cut into the regular purchases. The trick is that they really really wanted both of them to earn lots of money, when in the real world those models are in opposition. Insanity.

The Legend of a Bee Named Steve: I rescued a bee from the pool yesterday. We named him Steve. I fished him out, dumped him on the side about five feet away. Steve proceeded to walk directly back to the water. Meticulously dried himself off. Took flight, right into the pool.
