At this point, selling any small business to a larger conglomerate is a way to tell everyone in the shop that their jobs are on the chopping block. It's more a matter of "when" than "if".

Zohran Mamdani provides services and treats to the citizenry of New York because he wants to. It's an object lesson. Powerful people do things because they want to.

Every time someone tries to say "You don't understand, being mayor of Chicago is specifically difficult compared to some place like New York" I see that Chicago's mayor is doing things like appointing cronies to transportation boards while on day 37 of shopping around for a ShotSpotter alternative.

“Chicago doesn’t have a mayor problem” then why do we keep having mayor problems?

we need a strong republican party and a bipartisan MAHA movement and common sense trans sports bans and a bailout for havana syndrome victims. we need a big tent democratic party that includes war criminals and the lady at the the wellness store trying to get your mom off chemo

the trade deadline is awesome for fans of mediocre teams with cheap owners because it's the most proof that nothing ever happens you're going to get

MAHA do not have bipartisan concerns, they are stupid morons who what to feel special by "doing their own research" (watching youtube videos made by complete idiots) and their king is a guy who is probably, as we speak, eating deep fried chipmunks out of a brown paper bag

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@ocasio-cortez.house.gov · 2d ago

There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

Cheap MLB owners in smaller markets believe there is little correlation between spending and winning unless you're the Dodgers (or, 25 years ago, the Yankees). So, when it's time to clean house because you've counted yourselves out, you sell your assets to the Dodgers, bc no one else wants to try.

Those of you eager to serve wealthy MLB owners as volunteer Pinkertons won’t like to read this, but as usual Joe Sheehan nails the real problem:

Joe Sheehan: This trade is a microcosm of the real problem MLB has faced for decades. It’s not about haves and have-nots, but wants and want-nots. The Dodgers, and teams like them, want to win more than teams like the Tigers do, so they go out and acquire the Tigers’ best pitcher. MLB has built an entire labor strategy and media campaign around demonizing the Dodgers, when in fact it’s the Tigers who are wrecking baseball. You have to be through the looking glass to think the sport’s problem is the team that’s trying to win rather than the team that’s trading Tarik Skubal while sitting 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot.

the Red Sox could’ve kept Betts. Freeman wanted to stay in Atlanta more than anything and they passed. Machado didn’t stay. It’s not impossible for other teams to keep and sign these sorts of guys.

got t-boned on my bike by an octogenarian who didn’t know where he was and the cops let him walk because the only cogent witnesses were me (biased) and a dude across the street (“yeah i saw you flying in the air”), the driver was old, and i refused medical help (uninsured @ the time).

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

The immigrant union troops who defended their adopted country from slaver traitors are in fact, proof of concept of American higher ideals having nothing to do with “blood” or “heritage” or whatever cowardly euphemism is in vogue among these pathetic losers

personally i think anyone who knows what a pied-à-terre is (myself included) should pay an extra tax and anyone who actually has one should pay a hundred times that.
