The better days are not coming. Arrange yourself accordingly

I’m having a hard time understanding all the celebration around the Alberta vote. Sure, they rejected separation, but that was never the point of the referendum. The government was seeking permission to institute racist policies… and they got it!

Moreover, it succeeded. I believe that the separation question was simply the most dramatic, and bc of its weight, was declared the reason a referendum was needed. It was the other nine questions that were the critical ones, and Alberta failed in exactly the way it was meant to

To all those "celebrating" the rejection of the separation vote in AB, understand that that was never the goal. This was a campaign supported by foreign interests to destabilize Canada and promote a racist, white nationalist agenda, and create grievance ammunition to further destabilize us.

My most middle aged old man take but on some level it seems obvious every guy coming out as 'poly' in middle age is basically just a dude who is sort of openly saying "or I'm just going to cheat" and they've lucked into a point in American history where that angle doesn't instantly vilify you.

Those with power will eagerly discover your limits in order to exploit them. They will put any and all of their efforts out of reach of what you are willing to do If the goal is to win, then you cannot operate with limits in mind. You must be ready to apply pressure wherever they are softest.

Some people clearly need to hear this: Every big successful peaceful protest movement of modern history had a violent counterpart. Peaceful protest stopped working the moment the ruling class realized ignoring it wouldn't lead to violent uprising.

"But history shows that standing up to the city’s police force comes with great political risk." Then, we don't live in an actual democracy.

The Local Magazine@thelocal.to · 17h ago

Despite being rocked by one of the biggest scandals in its history, the city’s police force is getting nothing but support from major candidates in the municipal election. @wencyleung.bsky.social on the big issue that's been absent from this campaign. thelocal.to/toronto-poli...

Democratic candidates are not owed votes and if they want votes they should earn them. There is nothing controversial about this statement and it's a catastrophe for the political health of the country and party that so many people disagree.

Opera is and always has been abidingly political. Angelotti is an escaped political prisoner. Who better to express solidarity with Palestinians, trapped in a death camp, whatever the ‘authorisation’ status of the action. Shame on Calgary Opera. Solidarity with the artist and the Palestinian people.
