The world needs a well-defined concept of helpful and unhelpful chuunibyou. I wouldn't know how to begin to make it a feature of the culture around me, but luckily, not knowing where to begin is a problem solved by a well-defined concept of helpful and unhelpful chuunibyou.

If you have a neurodivergent kid your number one priority absolutely has to be teaching them how to hear the words "no", "don't", "stop" or "can't" without the kid resorting to violence. Removing those words from your vocabulary instead as a misguided accomodation is going to end so, so badly.

"I slipped and used the word "don't" when my AUDhD kiddo was writing in a library book with a sharpie.... that hole was then created with his foot."TikTok screencap talking about how the user's son's trigger words are "no, don't, can't, stop" and she is trying to remove those words from her vocabulary.

"if one genuinely believed this, the only ethical reaction would be" is unfortunately a failure mode common across the entire ideological spectrum now, which is one reason AI researchers can get away with it. and the worst thing is it's a defense that obfuscates what direction it's in

If one genuinely believed this, the only ethical reaction would be to kill all AI researchers with guns. But I notice this guy's not doing that. Or even quitting his job.

posting simulates the Writerly Utopia (self-selected audience, self-selected form, free production, universal distribution). it’s a simulacrum (the platform controls all those) but coping by fetishizing the constraints of form and institution is how you lose everyone in whom awen flows

he *still* doesn't really mean all the crazy shit he says, or else we'd be living in a planet sized crater already. he says exponentially more and crazier now, and acts consistently on about the same ratio. but people have dyscalculia for real numbers let alone craziness ratios

i think people do kinda overindex on this. people heard him say shit like this and thought 'well he cant *really* mean it because he said crazy shit last time and i was fine.'

this is a thing I often see in online discourse where one group will have a shibboleth or concept, another group starts using it in a way that "owns" them "by their own logic", then newer/lower-info members only recognize this "subverted" version

okay but like this is literally a conservative endorsing "magic dirt" as a way of attacking liberalism. what. what is happening. WHAT IS HAPPENING

One thing we found recently in this regard that kinda surprised me is that, after All This, there are in fact more self-IDed "woke" than "anti-woke" Americans. But less surprising is that the largest bucket remains the "what the hell are you talking about" Americans yougov.com/en-us/articl...

My theory on this is that most people aren’t mad at “woke” or whatever, they just experienced an upheaval of society through COVID and its aftermath and can’t actually put their finger on what’s bothering them. Woke is just a scapegoat for “I want things back the way they were”.

every book morality discourse operates on the contradiction that *I'm* not influenced by the book's morality, I can correctly see it's bad regardless of its power, but *someone else* will be. people of course are AND aren't influenced by what they read, but this can only be expressed as this split
