I genuinely love this book. I love blending genres, mixing fantasy with scifi, spy thriller with comedy, found family with military action. Dystopia with hope. I also love the self-discovery, the harshness, the beguilement and the naivety. And good old-fashioned culture shock! #BookSky #ReadSky

Decades after nuclear war, magic returns. "What a fantastic tale of magic, politics and relationships." "I really enjoyed the interplay between sci-fi and fantasy." "Packed yet tightly-paced science-fantasy thriller." "The ending was awesome." Print/KU/Audible Link: rxe.me/JBQMRK #BookSky

Book cover for The Magic Circle, a dystopian scifi fantasy suitable for 15+. A gold, circular emblem rests over a dark and smoky cityscape.

Got another 4 kg of plums on the go for jam. Trying to make 16 jars in one go. And there's still a lot of plums left, though finally not so much on the tree. I'm really starting to hate plums now. 😂 I've never known our tree to be so prolific, and we just can't give them away quick enough.

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

GenAI in writing is appalling. It shows a complete lack of care or respect for the reader, themselves, or the craft. It's like ordering off the menu and pretending you're a chef. If you don't use AI for writing but do for the cover or marketing, then everyone will assume you use it for writing.

I started getting followed by some "film festivals" and "writing festivals" and thought "oh, these are cool!" Then I looked a little closer. They're all part of a network that preys on writers, charging us for reviews, and feeding our stuff into slop generators. So I made a list.👋🏻🖕🏻😠

Putting aside the myriad issues of producing gen AI, that it's shown how many folks are incurious, lazy and utterly willing to sacrifice their ingenuity and creativity because they no longer seek to think for themselves is depressing. Truly, want more for yourself. Want better.

Ok, the sale is over, I'm afraid. Thank you to everyone who shared and reposted. Looks like I sold 6 free short stories and zero (yes, zero) ebooks at 99p. Ah well. Prices are now back up to normal, but I still have audiobook promo codes if anyone wants one.

If you use AI, it's genuinely really important to double or triple check that what it's done is actually what you'd asked it to do, for the very simple reason that it's utterly useless at anything involving facts, taste, accuracy, truth, or making tea. Just this week alone, I've heard locally...
