some #bars2026 highlights, as promised. Overall, an incredible conference. In general, everyone was so kind & generous with their time & conversation. Despite a precarious job market, ECR work was the highest standard I've witnessed, & there was a deep, comforting community spirit amongst us.

Last week also marked the end of my tenure on the BARS Exec (@bars.bsky.social), first as PGR (2022-24) and then ECR Officer (2024-26). These roles were a highlight of (and outlasted) my PhD, offering essential experience in conference organisation (tbt #BARS2023), mentoring, networking, and more /1

#BARS2026 excursion in Lichfield. Not only Erasmus Darwin but also Anna Seward lived here. Always admire her sonnet ‘To Colebrooke Dale’. Her family’s house, The Bishop's Palace, was now a Catholic high school. A Blue Plaque is situated at Minster Pool Walk, which she designed.

A beautiful, inspiring and thought-provoking couple of days at my first *big* BARS. Brum was a very welcoming city, with some beautiful architecture. And, as always, I'm in awe of having such incredibly clever friends and meeting such amazing people in the field. I loved #bars2026 so much ✨️

I have just returned from my first time attending a @bars.bsky.social, trying out some new work on a different topic to usual (was greeted by several people saying "oh so it IS you in the programme" 🤣). It was a really wonderful conference, huge congrats to the organisers 🙏 #18C #18thC #Romanticism

Sun sets on #BARS2026 🌅 I had the best time meeting friends old and new. So many great panels presenting important research during a time of global/sector crisis. And a huge plus is that BARS really is the best most welcoming bunch for PGRs!!!

I was only able to go to one day of the @bars.bsky.social conference but what a day it was! I presented on narrative voice in Walter Scott's The Pirate; learnt about Scott's Lighthouse Journal, the interactions between scientists and artists, Romantic drama etc.; and met some fabulous scholars!
