Brisbane City Council in 2025-26 : Population: 1.36 million Annual budget: $4.1 billion Number of new footpaths this year: 23 New zebra crossings this year: 1 New wombat crossings installed: 1 New bikeway projects: 1 That's quite a shocking record by the largest local government in Australia.

Each car park is estimated to cost $67k to construct. No provision for improved cycling infra on a "primary" route. We always seem to be able to afford massive $ for cars but not for other modes despite all the benefits of reduced car use, not the least of which is safety for kids. Shame on BCC.

Cause >>> effect. Brisbane City Council just "upgraded" Illaweena Street at Stretton College to add a formal carpark. Despite it being on the principal cycle network, they did not provide any cycling infrastructure. A child was hit with a car on their bike this afternoon. Cause. Effect. Anger.

As usual @thejuicemedia.com nails it. @australianlabor.bsky.social have chosen "doing something" that probably won't be effective at achieving its aims and will definitely negatively affect some. Meanwhile climate change, gambling, transparency, jobs 4 mates etc is all too hard.
