Something that’s been lost in the NAPLAN reporting today: the equity gap in our school system is growing. First Nations kids, kids living in poverty, and those in regional, rural and remote communities are falling further behind. Most of them attend an underfunded public school.

For a local comparison, Australia's corporate tax rates: 1987: 49% 1990: 39% 2025: 30% That's a whole lot of corporate income that is going to corporations and not to citizens. Source: statbase.org/data/aus-cor...
The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.
I’m on a small-ship Alaska cruise with my son; our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night and apparently we did that after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht - which was closer - and they repeatedly refused to respond. (There was near unanimous booing when the captain announced this)
These multinational gas corporations like Inpex and Santos are proving time and again that they'll put profits ahead of people, local communities and the environment. All the while, they're making billions from Australia's gas and paying next to nothing in tax.
Inpex released thousands of tonnes of toxic chemicals like benzene and toluene into the Northern Territory, and underreported these emissions to the territory's EPA for five years.
The news that charges will be sought against Inpex for under-reporting its toxic emissions is yet more evidence that these multinational gas corporations will always put profits before people and planet.
According to Environment Centre NT, Inpex had been under-reporting benzene and toluene emissions from its Ichthys LNG facility by more than 13,000% between 2019 and 2024 Read that again, under-reporting the emissions of toxic gases by >13,000% between 2019 an 2024 🤯
Japanese gas company Inpex has been charged by the NT Environmental Protection Authority over alleged under-reporting of emissions from its Ichthys LNG facility in Darwin, which an independent review found had been “systematically underestimated”.
