It is probably a good thing Trump does not understand shame. If he did he'd be upping the ante in very alarming ways we do not want to see.

New Mexico gardener here who knows "full sun" on a plant label means "for half a day, tops, preferably the morning half and would be fine to plant under a tree."

I spend an incredible amount of classroom and office hours time helping students with basic file management. All of us who grew up with floppy disks know digital data has to be physically stored somewhere. People who grew up "on the cloud" need to be taught this!

And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.

The things I have done to try to keep things cool with men who chose to abuse me is extensive. And includes cooking, invitations to the park (prevents claims you've refused him the kid while allowing you to supervise the kid!), and entirely too much smiling.

When I was small, my father held a knife to my mom’s throat as I screamed and scratched at his legs. Later she made dinner, because refusing to do so would have been worse. That was a few days before we left in the night, her bleeding, me silent. It was the worst night of my life. And the best.

More please. Would really like HAWKs on the full length of Claremont at every major crossing so it would actually be a usable ped/bike corridor. And more traffic calming for it. Esp by Zuni Elementary & including the little streets around the school.

An awful lot of the "compliments" women get accused of not taking are just flattery, at best,* and not at all actually compliments. *frequently they are much worse
Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social · 4d agoThere’s also something to how women are socialized to be suspicious of flattery — it’s how we transfer responsibility for men’s desire onto women’s bodies; we are taught to defend against that in service to our “innocence” or whatever — whereas men accept flattery as their due. Perfect marks.
It really really really bugs me how many people simply do not understand what it means when the government tries to convict you even IF THEY FAIL TO DO IT. Do you know how many thousands of dollars in legal fees it costs? You will most likely lose your job. You might lose your home.

I was back in school TWO DAYS after giving birth because I could not afford to loose financial aid. I missed ONE DAY and was punished for it in class. I had nearly perfect scores on every assignment and exam and otherwise perfect attendance but was still handed the Mom Penalty.

This is a tip I got from a CTL class early in grad school. And there is often that one group on the last project who thank me for finally getting to work with a group that didn't leave them to do the whole project alone and *just once* getting to experience an equitable work load.

Swift accountability about showing up for each other had a ripple effect for everyone’s benefit. [Evil Professor Laugh] If the first group project revealed multiple slackers, I put them all in the same group for Project 2.
I think my grandpa was in elementary school then. So maybe reading and arithmetic? During the Depression he was middle-school aged and they moved from Michigan to Siberia and great grandpa built coke* plants for the Soviets.

I was in fact in a farmer meeting at that very moment! So I live-texted him the meeting. They were complaining that they want indentured workers that they don't have to pay or feed.
I am endlessly irritated that when fathers kill their children it doesn't get this kind of coverage but is just *shrug* a normal thing.
