That’s true. I mean realistically James Joyce ain’t ever gonna be mass reading, lol. However the expectation is that over time more and more people read it each passing year. More people read The Odyssey this very second than in the entirety of Ancient Greece. More read Kafka than when he was alive.

It's not breezy reads that are stopping people from reading the classics. If anything, light reading tends to lead to *more* reading, classics or otherwise. It's the lack of free time and headspace that stop people from reading anything. (I said all of this... rather passionately.) [2/2]

I was on a panel earlier this year, discussing Uketsu's STRANGE PICTURES. The moderator asked whether books like this—essentially light reads—were distracting people from reading the classics and I said that entertainment for the masses has been vilified since Shakespeare. [1/2]

Like I start a book and think ok I'll try and get 30-50 pages and that will start a momentum, and then there's chores, there's cleaning, there's demands from partners and friends, there's work and so on. It's like a Donald Duck adventure to finish reading.

Worst part of reading is definitely the fact that you can’t tune out the world as you do. You see a movie in a theater, you are seated and focused (exceptions may apply), you can put earphones and listen to music as you do work (exceptions may apply) but reading and gaming is distraction-ville.

She's safe. Here's the sunrise shot, and then shortly thereafter when Fuego woke up. As far as she knows, they were they last group down the mountain, now it's off limits.

Yesterday, my daughter was on Acatenango in Guatemala, having hiked to 13,000 feet for a dawn viewing of the Fuego volcano, two miles away. Fuego then started erupting. This is the photo she took, and then the guide said, "We gotta go. Now." Nearby villages were evacuated.

I am actually working on a post about this...but the photography thing has been degraded based on a misconception that Peter is a bad photographer when in the original comics he was considered canonically a great photographer. But him being talented at art is considered a dispositive for fans.
