‘Why did you restart the war?’ ‘Because they won’t release the hostages.’ ‘And why won’t they release the hostages?’ ‘Because we won’t agree to end the war.’
The resumption of war will kill the remaining hostages as well as untold numbers of Palestinian civilians. Hamas on the other hand, will likely emerge relatively unscathed. Their losses will be replaced almost instantaneously and they will salvage unexploded ordinance to re-arm.
Oded Lifshitz’s body was returned today together with the Bibas’ in black coffins adorned with Hamas propaganda. Haaretz just re-published a 2019 column by Oded on how Netanyahu rejected opportunities for peace and strengthened Hamas. Please read Oded’s words. www.haaretz.com/opinion/2025...

If anything, Gazans should relocate to the West Bank while Gaza is rebuilt. Refugee camps should be set up on evacuated settlements deep in the WB. A win-win since these settlements are obstacles to peace. Look at the settlements (red) between Ramallah and Nablus for example.
So relentless has been Israel’s assault, and so complete the destruction in northern Gaza that a former Israeli defence minister described the military’s actions there as ‘ethnic cleansing’. Here's how the Israeli military erased a town of 200,000 people in Gaza. on.ft.com/3DTS14e

Historians are not known to be radical, the AHA is a conservative organisation. The resolution was not radical by any means, but the fact it passed so overwhelmingly says something about a sea change among the intelligentsia.
I could barely breathe reading this. I'm glad it is a short article. Every word was difficult.

1/21 Hi all, I’d like to introduce myself with a long thread. I’m a historian of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - a somewhat controversial topic. In the thread below, I’ll explain my somewhat controversial contribution: the use and misuse of settler-colonialism to define Zionism.
Meir Baruchin, Civics teacher, condemns the killing of innocents in Gaza - gets fired. Eliyahu Mali, head of a publicly funded religious seminary, calls for the killing of children in Gaza - no consequences. (via Adi Argov, X)
“Come build your house in Gaza!” The conference in Jerusalem attended by 12 Israeli ministers featured a map of Gaza with the neighborhoods given Hebrew names: Rimal is now King David Zeitoun is now Shivat Zion At-Tuffah is now Hagdud Ha-Ivri Tel al-Hawa is now Givat Ha-Ruhot Photo: Nir Hasson
Among other reasons, Netanyahu is keeping this war going because it benefits him. He knows that the moment it's over so is his career. Israelis hate him and want him gone, but are so committed to the war that they aren't pushing him out. Which means it will go as long as Netanyahu can make it go on
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday that Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza will continue for “many more months,” pushing back against persistent international cease-fire calls after mounting civilian deaths, hunger and mass displacement in the besieged enclave.
This is a must read. Devastating and incriminating.

Outside the Knesset this morning. A bereaved mother who lost her son on Oct. 7th and her father in the Yom Kippur War demands Netanyahu and his destructive govt. be held accountable for the catastrophe they have brought on us.

Meet Eliyahu Yusian, popular TV personality and genocidal member of Habithonistim. Eliyahu believes we should have murdered 50,000 Palestinians on Oct. 7th. He believes all 2.5 million Gazans are terrorists. Yesterday Eliyahu was invited to speak to dozens of IDF officers.
“If we want to end terrorism, we couldn’t continue regarding them [Palestinians] as eternal enemies, we needed to stop dehumanizing them as animals on the prowl. They are people who desire, and deserve, the same national rights we have.” - Ami Ayalon Former Head of the Shin Bet
Saturday was an indictment of all Netanyahu has done. His government invested so heavily in occupation and apartheid in the West Bank that they were completely unprepared. Like all authoritarians, instead of admitting his failure, he will use his failure to secure more power.
They slaughtered us from Gaza while our soldiers were busy enabling Jewish supremacy in the West Bank. Our leaders promise us more of the same. Exact a heavy price! Reduce them to rubble! There is no military solution. We are being led into the abyss. Indescribable pain.
