v happy to be working on new projects, in ‘new’ island places, fortutiously intersecting in one of my favourite towns, Trincomalee: on the conflated histories/present of militarisation & leisure in Ceylon/Sri Lanka + the making of place through photography everydayphotography.org/journal/stud...

Huge thanks to Mark & Nick - I really enjoyed chatting to them about my research last week! Conversations like these remind me that working in Sri Lanka was an honour, and get me excited about the future of cricket on the island. If anyone wants to learn more, get in touch.

This @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced — it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? (Video split in 2 to fit in Bluesky’s limits)
Together with @bhildred.bsky.social, @arthurgaillard.bsky.social & others we shared insights from the book - I talked a bit about my chapter 'Doing Vulnerability in the Digital Age: On Researching Discrimination in Football Fandom'. Curious about the book? Get it here: vernonpress.com/book/2290 3/3

As nice as it is to see you all full of energy and announcing new projects, I need some representation for those of us who have crawled into 2025 unwell, slow and uninspired. My year will be starting properly next week thank you 🙏
Merry Christmas to me, for finally finishing the edits on this! I would not wish the task of indexing a book on my worst enemy. 'Anthropology in Sporting Worlds: Knowledge, Collaboration and Representation in the Digital Age' will be published in 2025 by Vernon Press. #academicsky #sportanthro
When did it just become a *thing* to watch videos without headphones? Trains are full of people flicking through tiktok these days... one guy was watching a full football match
This had almost passed me by, but it seems the recent #LKA U-19s games are the first time that two players from Jaffna have been in the national team at the same time? Really great sign of cricket's growing health in the north if so and credit to those developing the game there.
To be very clear, as a teacher I don't want "time-saving AI tools." I want time.
Published by the @acscricket.bsky.social, this looks a good read from Tony Watts. Certainly one for those of us who enjoy #cricket and how #socialclass has influenced the game.

We have a properly warped perception of how much various sectors contribute to the UK economy. The fishing industry, which is constantly in the news and to whom politicians of all rosettes regularly play, adds less to GDP than Games Workshop
