If by 'woke' we mean something like 'opposed to oppression wherever it exists', socialists need to be 'woke' because literally the whole point of socialism is to, um, oppose oppression wherever it exists.

Bougie Leftists: You have to concentrate on populist economic issues to appeal to the working class because they don't care about anything else. Workers: We want social, cultural, racial, bodily, sexual, gender, and national equality as well as economic equality. Bougie Leftists: Elitist snobs.

If Jenny Racicot were a Republican, the 'Platner left' would still be calling this a frame-up and calling her a liar. And the point isn't partisanship. It's misogyny and rape culture, slightly mediated through the aesthetics of party politics as curated for their particular paying audiences.

The online progressive left have revealed a widespread moral and political bankruptcy in l'affair Platner. We've witnessed a squalid orgy of casuistry, misogyny, and conspiracism. And for what? Milquetoast reformist electoralism with the Dems that they talk about like its the 2nd coming of Marx.

The Platner situation just demonstrates, yet again, that the stuff you hear about the left not being sufficiently welcoming to white straight men is utter horseshit. In fact Platner demonstrates the opposite. A worthless candidate was chosen and then defended long past reason. And we all know why.

They misuse labels people think mean good things. Being a centrist is utterly immoral. Being a liberal means serving the rich. Being a social democrat means nothing when you're neither of those... Democracy is a good idea. We just cannot allow the right to play, they always cheat and ruin the game.

I've said this about the US Dems so many times, so let me be clear that it applies to UK Labour as well. They'd rather lose to the Right than win with the Left. The tacit part of that is: they *are* the Right, just in a disguised form.

At the university level it would be the (exclusively right-wing) political theory lecturer who decided to take their frustrations out on us. We didn't even get a word in, he just rattled the questions and then failed us in the same breath. Us being a budding socialist was probably a factor.

The tenth grade math teacher who, after I brought in a photocopy of a college textbook making it explicit that I was right that “if” and “only if” meant different things in formal logic, still marked me wrong on the relevant test question because I hadn’t learned that in her class.

The US needs to change, to become a real democracy, not an oligarchical and dictatorial parody of one. If one leader elected by the elite minority can decide on laws and policy without actual checks or balances... It's not a democracy. Doubly so if the people's right the vote is infringed on.

This is the problem... one of the problems... with having the state run by a psychopath. You reach an agreement with him. He thinks "Good. I won." No matter what you said, he heard "I surrender". No matter what he said, he thought "I'll do as I please."

A photo-story about abolishing ICE because it has grown to be a menace on society, and needed to be removed to protect their health, and also public property. We wish it was that easy for the US to follow suit.

We love our job, so we try and try again to use our creative hobbies for running small events. Hopefully we'll get to do something bigger this year. No, not the mini-con during the Siege of Malbork fair. That one is already set in stone. Something that happens on a regular basis.

A desktop with plastic frames containing an unassembled dragon miniature and the box it came in. An already cut out base for the miniature and a pair of players are laid beside it. In the background you can see the clutter of a computer desk at the Library. In the upper right corner a glazed ceramic cat-among-books adornment can be seen on a pile of paper book catalogue cards.
