The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has broken a 60-year record for the latest start to hurricane formation since satellite tracking began in 1966. This unprecedented quiet period is primarily driven by a very strong El Niño producing high wind shear that prevents Atlantic storms from organizing.
Continuing its voyage into uncharted waters, the latest preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly is now at a record 3.08°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. Models expect the Nino 3.4 anomaly to continue rising into at least mid-November. Then there will be dragons.
Yesterday's Nino 3.4 SST was 29.73°C (preliminary), setting the 114th consecutive daily record, 0.93°C higher than the previous daily high set in 2015 and 3.78σ above the 1991-2020 mean. The highest recorded sea-surface temperature for the Nino 3.4 region is 29.82°C, set on November 17, 2015.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $8 trillion. The entire bottom 50% of American households is worth just $4.27 trillion. Read that back. Remember: Wealth can’t be separated from power. Power begets wealth and wealth begets power.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Reality doesn't care about your ill-informed opinions or beliefs. Gravity exists whether or not you 'believe' in it. Climate Change is happening whether or not you 'believe' it. Science is completely indifferent to what you choose to believe.
So, I live in California, and I've always known that sea levels would rise high enough to wipe out most coastal communities over the next few decades. But it's still surreal to see it happening right now in SoCal with Hurricane Marie and El Niño.
