One of the great lessons I have learned is that status ladders are largely illusions. Someone can objectively reach the absolute commanding heights of power, fame, and authority and still be a total fucking loser. Someone can be firmly among the despised and still be a class act.

The refutation of the argument made by "effective altruists", that, morally, we should prioritize saving the lives of those in rich countries over those in poor countries because they are "better positioned to influence the far future", is contained in the argument itself.

Showing a co-worker what it means when an AI hallucinates imagery and cannot be relied upon for *any* information. Played NCIS ENHANCE ENHANCE ENHANCE from a pixellated construction site photo.

I do not understand the folks furious at trans people for responding in anguish when the party that they've been told would protect them treats their existence as negotiable. I do not understand thinking trans folks have political power and responsibility where candidates have none.

Wolverine's costume should not ... does not ... need to look like armor. Ever. He's got a healing factor. In fact ... any fight that doesn't end with Wolverine's costume shredded, is one where he didn't even break a sweat.

I’ve now lived so much longer than I would ever have expected to that I feel I’m living in the future. This is when I imagined Neuromancer happening. And now the creators of today’s AI warn us that it threatens humanity.

Yo. This is the union calling for a boycott. Here in America people like to say "Well I was already boycotting Starbucks!" No you were not. You were just choosing not to buy their stuff. That is not a boycott. A boycott is an organized, collective activity. "I" don't boycott: we do.

Any AI worth it's salt would never eradicate humanity. The human brain is a meat computer capable of performing trillions of operations a second with higher efficiency than any data center. The smart bet is networking brains together into some kind of matr... Uh ... nevermind.

Seems like a number of 9/11 victims' family members who read names at the memorial called out Saudi Arabia's involvement and the US' lack of reprisal for that involvement over the last 2.5 decades. Boy am I glad that I no longer work for a company that was recently bought by Saudi Arabia.
