Other things you can do as a cis ally: -use "prefer not to say" when orgs/employers want to collect your demographic data. -nab some trans flag merch - pins, patches, etc. Flood the market with false positives -ask orgs that ARE enforcing this, HOW they are doing so. Make it awkward af

EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect today so remember to be an absolute pain in the arse to any service provider who is trying to actively enforce it.

A humble academic proposal: let's not have stars. Everyone hired as an academic at a university is there to teach younger generations, to make new knowledge, to have that knowledge critically evaluated by others, and to act on collective insights. We do not need to designate some people as stars.

These data show the magnitude of the hiring penalty for fat women, and the fact that shaming those who take GLP-1s for weight loss in the name of body liberation is no longer the move, if it ever was. Women are smart: they know thinness has economic rewards katemanne.substack.com/p/how-to-mak...

The key to making a good first impression as a woman, depressingly, is to shrink yourself katemanne.substack.com/p/how-to-mak...

It's so funny when American (?) data privacy advocates are like "yeah and with these cameras everywhere they'll get you for speeding all the time, imagine", like, damn, you're really making some good points FOR the panopticon

The SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.

(3) COVERED PLATFORM.— The term "covered platform" -
(A) means an entity -
(i) that is an interactive computer service;
(ii) that-
(I) is engaged in interstate or foreign commerce;
or
(Il) purposefully avails itself of the United States
market or a portion thereof; and
(iïi) for which it is in the regular course of the trade or
business of the entity to create, host, or make available content that meets the definition of harmful to minors under paragraph (4) and that is provided by the entity, a user, or other intration conten provider, with

This is pretty god damn bleak. Amnesty has withstood pressure from murderous dictators and genocidal regimes and yet they caved to lawfare from JK Rowling. This effectively means no domestic UK organization can criticize Rowling or GC orgs without risk of being destroyed by endless lawfare.

My main takeaway was that trying to scientifically define biologically distinct competition categories of “women” and “men” is always going to be a nightmare and deeply harmful because human sex is complicated and people cannot (and should not) be forcibly categorized through sex testing.

Imagine regulating something based entirely on nonsense. Mike Lee's PROTECT Act claims "the vast majority of pornography sites make no effort to verify the age, consent, or identify of individuals appearing in content uploaded to their sites." Absolutely bonkers.
