Head of maths, head full of maths. In the corner of the fox county.

I really enjoyed this history of queuing, particularly the bit where they got rid of loads of queues and didn't have anything for people to do when they weren't queuing... an illusion of freedom!

New JHM! The July 2026 issue includes an article by a student I taught for whom this was her grade 11 independent research project: scholarship.claremont.edu/jhm/vol16/is... She explored an area of #mathematics called "queueing theory" and wrote all about it in the context of Disney! #iTeachMath ♾️

there's nothing to suggest that these aren't just soundbites from new ministers, and as ever, vague platitudes become comments like this: "it's all going to change!" 100% the gcse and a level wont go and no foreseeable government has the political capital to change it

I'm glad to see this. It's what many of us have been arguing for a long time, but until now no one in government seemed ready to listen. Let's hope we will begin to see an education policy which works for children, and for the 21st Century. In The Times today.

Schooling ‘straitjacket’ has left a million behind, minister says

Lucy Powell, the education secretary, says ‘one-size-fits-all’ academic approach has led to children being branded a ‘failure’

& w/out wanting to skew this back to behaviour management all the time, you see this in teenage classroom behaviour "I need you to show that this completely fair punishment you have meted upon me is feasibly an injustice, or caused a ruckus last time, so you will be reluctant to take this further"

the point of the protest is not trying to overturn the red card, as much as trying to mentally convince the ref that the balance has been skewed. the pleading to check var during this moment isnt because they want the var checked- the narrative needs to be injustice so that later 50-50s go their way

Even if it were landing on Mars or idk, the return of Jesus himself, children are fine watching catchup or highlights. And if you do keep them up, pls don’t send them into my classroom tomorrow where I will have to help them self regulate through tiredness. Thx

Last night asked my other half an a level maths exam question on the large data set. He thought for a minute then guessed an answer. It was right. He's never even heard of the large data set...

Currently auditing what we do for #alevelmaths transition, from Y11 to Y12, at my school. I’m curious to hear what other schools do. Do you run an induction lesson? If so, what maths do you do in that induction lesson? What transition work do you set?

Thanks for all your help the other week on tutoring my godson - another request for help please! Any top tips/quirks/key points for AQA A level Maths pure content? I haven't taught AQA so anything to focus on or that they do a little differently would be super helpful please 🙂 #ALevelMaths
