One of the best things I've done this break is start watching The Hundred cricket casually. I forgot how much I love watching a bit of cricket.

HoD maths in London. CTeach, NPQLT, NPQSL, MA. Basically I love T&L and research. And KS3 and transition. And maths.
Horrific realisation about the passage of time: the mate who I am meeting for drinks and is a real adult with an established career is the same age as the kids from my first form group.
New (free) TMUA resource. Three pairs of mini-TMUA exams (8 questions each) on themes (Logic & Proof; Geometry & Graphs; Algebra). Do one of the pair, think about the answers (provided), then do the second of the pair with more confidence. www.tes.com/teaching-res... 70 days and counting...
Spent some time setting up Notion for tracking my EdD reading today. Now it looks pretty and has all.the columns. Nothing in them, but pretty.
As much as I like the idea of training for vocational careers at school, I also think there should be more opportunities and routes for adults to do vocational apprenticeships. Not everyone is ready to choose their path as a teenager and many modern apprenticeships cap the age.

Just finished an initial call about becoming a Primary school governor next academic year. Very excited to maybe have this chance to see what Primary schools do up close, as well as that extra level of whole school thinking.
The app says I'm ready for 12kg dumbbells today. Double digits woo! That means soon I might move to bench press with barbells not dumbbells.
Proper summer break: watched the cricket (on TV) yesterday and today did a big clear out of a wardrobe.
To every trans Londoner: this city is yours too. Today we celebrate London Trans+ Pride and reaffirm a simple truth: you should be free to live as yourself, without fear or prejudice. You are loved. You are wanted. You belong here.
Figured out why my cat squares up to foxes. He thinks they're scared of him. Every time he sees a fox in the garden, I check and we both look out the door and the fox runs. I think he thinks they're running from him, not me.
The thing about someone ‘improperly receiving benefits’ is I don’t care. Oh no did someone get food or health care? Good!
Day 2 of summer holidays: The cat kneaded my arm and now I have scratches. But the other half made chocolate strawberry ice cream.
My absolute favourite question on @teachertapp.bsky.social today. (Nb: we do actually compile and send over to their advisors, if they’re willing to receive them… so don’t forget to get onto TT and answer!)
Starting holiday right: fancy breakfast being delivered, crime drama on TV, cat sat on my lap.
Had a real epiphany about "expanding" brackets. Expand means, outside of maths, to make bigger (definition from a yr 9) Which is what we're doing. We're scaling the bracket.
I got a little ridiculous today and as a result have a laminated departmental action plan. End of term procrastination is real.

The question shouldn't be 'How effective are your strategies for PP, Send and inclusion'. The question should be 'How effectively do you raise the quality of inclusion provision for all children, including send and pp'. In my opinion.
Very proud of myself: organised yr 11 intervention groups, staffing, and topics based on qla analysis up to November mocks. September me just has to say "go".
So bourgeois, I just bought a matcha latte machine. Not like I had an espresso machine with milk for her already...
If I could have a magic box that would let my cats understand me for only one sentence, that sentence would be, "For fuck's sake, throw up on the bare floor and not on the goddamn carpet"
I now realise that the yr 13 who wrote QED after everything (and I mean everything) on his mock paper as a top tier troll actually did slightly break my brain as seeing QED makes me irrationally annoyed now.
On 18 Sept 2:15-3:30pm we're putting on a Year 12 show in Dulwich called 'The Civil Engineering Show'. It'll be FREE. It's not part of the formal MI programme, we won't put it on the website, but if you think your school might want to come email sarahATstandupmathsDOTcom to register your interest.
Woohoo! EdD year 1 final coursework passed. Bring on year 2 and my full research proposal.
Sent my 2ic a link to amsp training for new and aspiring HoDs (leadership training innit) and had to then go make sure he wasn't panicking that I was leaving because it's a bit of an ominous course without that context
I am teaching #MathsToday to year 12 psychology students for the research methods section. Cross curricular stuff is important but we don't have time to find out so I forced my hand by signing up to this.

Do Pearson define quartiles for the A-Level? There are several different ways to calculate them and all I can find is something in a textbook but not the specification itself. It seems Pearson differ from GCSE to A-Level if you go by textbooks alone. #MathsToday #AlevelMaths #UKMathsChat
