Guys, I'm breaking the thread for a moment. This should be a regular reminder: Make somebody feel seen. A nurse, a teacher, the dish busser at your favorite coffee shop, somebody with whom you share a slender but real connection. There will come a time when those moments are precious to you.

the whole 'nothing has gotten better' discourse is of course fucking stupid in a million ways, but I just wanted to note that average dog lifespan in the United States has increased by two years since 2000.

So. Yeah the decision to elevate the normal amount of missing context & details, that you notice when people do media about Your Specialty, into A Whole Internet Beef just. does not show good judgment or situational awareness in my opinion.

And yet, somehow my ag friends have never felt the need to round up a posse to yell about how "ackshully SciShow is stupid." Which is wild because farmers LOVE to yell about being misunderstood

Yeah & I don't think it was even necessarily "knowing more than Hank Green." Those scripts are written by teams & staff writers! And like… every SciShow video about agriculture has stuff in it where I go "Haha actually it's a little bit different than that!" That's what knowing a field is like!

Omg, I saw that happening and, despite having a literal pile of yarn and crochet hooks covering my coffee I table, I could not figure out why it was worth anything more than briefly feeling smug that I knew more about something than Hank Green

Worked on live professional poker last night. Absolute dogshit television, though among the parade of baseball caps and shades to hide tells I appreciate this one player dressing as Doflamingo from One Piece as his personal intimidation tactic.

corruption is going to be endemic to any economic system and any government, because it’s not about either of those, it’s about *people* and what we are and who we are and what we are willing to do and what we are not willing to do to enforce behavioral, legal and moral standards amongst ourselves

a *lot* of what a *lot* of people are rightfully angry about isn’t capitalism, it’s corruption, and i have no intention of trying to convert anticaps or leftists into capitalism, but the first principles of capitalism are derived out of an intention to curb snd inhibit corruption

this is a real thing that happens a lot and it’s a total misunderstanding of capitalism and i really wish that more loud and online anti-capitalists would take the time to understand what it is they think they’re against, most of them are wrong about what they think they’re fighting

there is a strain of lefty discourse where you can’t come to any unflattering conclusions about the populace—those must be explained away by how they are being acted upon by capital—but I think you’ll understand things better if you understand capital can also exploit weaknesses it didn’t create

I’ve seen the left half of this floating around in Boomer/X chud spaces. The right part was obviously added by AI. Which, in toto, makes it perhaps the greatest illustration of the centrist mindset I’ve ever seen.

www.gofundme.com/f/fund-expen... Hey! We have the last Aerosmith: Quest For Fame in the world. We're trying to crowdfund to cover the expenses to preserve it. This is a unique piece of rhythm game history, and we plan to place it in a public arcade! Any support would be wildly appreciated!

an important part of any negotiation is timing, and this timing couldn't be worse for republicans; trump is going to shit a fucking brick because he gets nothing out of this, and he's probably going to take that shit brick and throw it at susan collins, but it doesn't matter, they don't have time

i'm also going to beg you to look at the calendar and see how much time on the clock congress has left; putting this up *now* puts congressional GOP in one hell of a bind, because they either have to agree to it and eat shit or scrap it and own another shutdown, there's not time for anything else

i am begging you — including some of you who follow me that i'm seeing in the OP QTs — to actually read what senate democrats are getting out of this and to stop and think for, like, at least 90 seconds, about what *else* you think a minority party *in both chambers* can squeeze out of the majority

stop letting social media clickmerchants juice your fucking adrenaline through the STRATEGIC use of ALL CAPS and STRONG LANGUAGE and actually think about this stuff, @cooperlund.online is right, too many people are too mad to think straight and it's making some of you say very stupid things

stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive

here i tread into speculation, so it's worth what you pay for it, but ICE have had trouble recruiting, which means the big shows of force have either been OT or have been augmented by other DHS agencies; they've bought/abandoned multiple warehouses, it's not insane to think they may have trouble
